The Algarve region
The climate of the Algarve is warm even through the winter months November through to February. In March the spring flowers start to bloom and accentuate the splendour of cliff tops walks. The rest of the summer months are hot.
The caves all around the Algarve are a sight to behold and can only be seen from the sea so why not take an excursion on one of the traditional fishing boats and revel in the splendour of their ancestry, these set off regularly from most of the beaches.
The Algarve as well as having beautiful beaches with secluded coves and cliff tops walks with spectacular scenery is also well known for its golf courses and the local course - Vale da Pinta - approximately 10 - 15 minutes by car - has a David Leadbetter School for those wising to improve their game.
The historic town of Silves with its own castle is approximately a 20 minute drive away and whilst on this route why not carry on up into the mountains to the little town of Monchique with its quaint cobbled streets, shops and churches. On the way up to Monchique stop of at Caldas and take in the history of how the water used to be bottled there. If you go early enough you will see the bread oven still being used. Take a wonder up the side of the stream and then enjoy a drink at one of only two cafes and sample a pastal de nata a speciality of the Algarve.
Carvoeiro / Central Carvoeiro area
Carvoeiro, until recently a small fishing village, has lost little of its original charm. Today, the village extends to the surrounding hillsides with a combination of beautifully designed individual villas, low rise holiday apartments and a number of extensive holiday complexes which cater for all needs. The three main streets of the village are lined with a wonderful selection of restaurants, bars and tourist shops. Two excellent 18 hole golf courses at Gramacho and Pinta along with a 9 hole par 3 course at Vale do Milho are located just outside the village and a number of well managed Tennis Centres are also within easy reach. Some of the beaches are sheltered by high cliffs whilst others extend for many kilometers. Slide and Splash, a large water fun park is located only minutes away from Lagoa. Another must for families is Zoomarine with its assortment of performing and sea creatures, also providing you with the unforgettable experience of swimming with the performing dolphins
