The Algarve has become one of the most popular holiday destination no less so for its record of sunshine, well photographed beaches, secluded coves with stunning backdrops and the fabulous choice of golf courses. People also holiday in the Algarve to pursue other sporting activities including riding, walking, fishing, tennis and watersports -windsurfing and body boarding. Given the choice of recreational activities it is easy to understand why so many choose to holiday in the Algarve and why so many of the low cost airlines have Faro and Lisbon on their routes. The Algarve also maintains some of its local traditions which can be seen for example in the small fishing towns where the catch is landed, cleaned and then served up in the local beach or harbour side restaurants. Many of the restaurants continue to serve traditional dishes to give the holiday maker a 'taste' of Portugal washed down with the local wine which are all excellent value. If you are interested in the surrounding history, you will not be disappointed in a trip to the fort at Sagres and the castle of Silves. Carvoeiro has its own tennis club at Sesmaris as well as the local one found within 5 minutes walk at Rocha Brava. Both clubs are owned and operated by the same owner and offer varied activites throughout the season.Weekly memberships are available and guests can turn up for the informal sessions which take place every weekday afternoon as well as Sunday morning. The dramatic coastline lends its self to walking. There are also numerous walking opportunities in the hills of Sierra Monchique. Organised walks with the local ramblers, take place throughout the year. For those sun sea and sand lovers, you will be spolit for choice within a 5 minute drive from Clube Golfemar including Smugglers Cove,Centianes. Marinhara and Benagil. Still on the 'water' theme, a visit to either of the water parks-Slide and Splash (10 minutes) and Aqualand (20 minutes) are fun for the whole family. If you fancy a swim with the dolphins as part of your holiday experience then a trip to Zoo Marine (15 minutes) is for you. There is also Go Karting at Almancil (20 minutes). If its shopping you want on holiday, then a trip to the Algarve shopping mall with its range of boutiques, restaurants and cinema, is a good trip out in the evening.
The Carvoeiro / Clube Golfemar area
Within walking distance of the villa, are a selection of restaurants and bars ranging from a pizzeria to a traditional Portuguese restaurant, form an excellent Indian takeaway to an internet cafe. In Carvoeiro town which is approx 2 kms away, you will find an extensive choice of international cuisine as well as bars and selection of shops. Whatever your budget, you will find something to suit your taste. Also in the town you will find in summer months, live evening shows as all gather in the town square to support the visiting acts. Although basic shopping can be done locally, we advice visiting Intermarche which is no more than a 10 minute drive out of town, for your main holiday shopping. The choice is plentiful and good value for money. The Algarve is renowned for its spectacular golf courses. The par 3 Vale de Milho is within walking distance. Golfers can take advantage of the 'sundowner' rate available late afternoon/early evening for as little as 23 Euros (summer 2012) and still be back in time to light the BBQ. Whilst a 5 minute drive away takes you to Pestana with its choice of 2 courses. For a more challenging round, visit Pinta and Gramachio which are a 15 minute drive away.

Adobe al Mare is 55 kms from Faro airport or approx 40 minutes drive using the well signposted and toll motorway network.
Budget airlines that fly into Faro include, Easy Jet, BMI Baby, Ryanair, Flybe, Jet2, as well as charter airlines including Monarch, Thomas Cook and Air Lingus.
Lisbon airport is approx 3 hours drive using the toll free motorway network.
To appreciate all this coastline has to offer, car hire is recommended and options can be found on the internet. It is advisable to have an all inclusive rate which some hire companies offer as standard which would include other drivers cover and trips into Spain. If travelling with children, the rates for car seats can vary and add a considerable cost to your hire costs e.g. some companies charge a fixed fee, others a daily rate and you can even find they are provided for free. We are happy to recommend the companies that we use as a family on our trips to the Algarve.
If you are the adventurous type and like to explore and mix with the locals, the bus network is good between towns in the area, and you can get a transfer from and to the resort. Again a search on the internet will provide various companies and rates.
If a bus transfer isn't for you, a taxi fare from the airport is approx 55 euros. There are some parked up at the airport, or we are happy to recommend a local company with a people carrier to accommodate 6 people.

We have recently returned from an 11 night stay in this lovely villa - we had a great time. The villa is privately owned and all bookings and correspondence are handled by Louise the owner - she is very organised and deals with everything very efficiently. The villa is situated in a fantastic location on a lovely complex called Clube Golfemar. The patio and garden get the sun all day and have a lovely sea view. The villa is very spacious with 3 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a large lounge with dining area and extremely well equipped kitchen. The complex is very clean and well maintained with lovely gardens. There is a lovely large swimming pool and paddling pool set in nice gardens with a pool bar serving drinks, ice cream and light meals. We love Carvoeiro and this is a lovely tranquil place to stay. Response: Always delighted when busy professional people take the time to comment on their stay at our family home on Clube Golfemar. Given the effort put into the management of the complex especially the gardens and outside spaces, it is pleasing to hear that guests both appreciate and enjoy this additional luxury which we feel only enhances our home and makes it all the more appealing for any holiday. Thanks to the Ballantynes for their comments and look forward to welcoming them back in the future. |

From our initial contact with the owners until our return home, we received excellent service - thank you! We really enjoyed our 1 week stay in this lovely villa, it is very comfortable and every gadget you could think of was available. We had our 2 young children with us (28months & 7 months), and the fact that cot, high chair, baby monitor, baby steriliser unit, cutlery & plastic crockery made this very easy. The owner even provided toys for our toddler to use. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and contained some food items for the children too. The outside space is very nice, with an enclosed garden and terraces that benefit from the gorgeous sunshine all day. There is a lovely outdoor patio with dining table, chairs, parasol and BBQ. The villa is extremely secure with electronic shutters on all the doors and windows. All of the windows and doors also have locks and in addition the internal doors have locks & keys. This give us peace of mind when out and about during the day and when sleeping at night time. The villa is situated in the Clube Golfemar complex. It is fairly large complex and the grounds are immaculately maintained. The pool area is very nice, however the quickest way to access from the villa is via steps but you can walk a longer distance to use ramps (approx 5-10mins if pushing pram and the usual pool type things required!). The pool cafe/restaurant opened on our 3rd day (for the season) It had a nice selection of reasonably priced cafe style meals and drinks and is open 10am - 6pm. The Rocha Brava complex is a short walk (5-10 mins) and contains a small supermarket and some restaurants and bars. We used the local beach (Vale Centeannes), it really is beautiful. We didn't attempt to walk as we had 2 small children and as we had a hire car we wanted to make the most of it. The town Carvoeiro is a 5 minute car journey and a nice small place with a large selection of cafe, restaurant and bars. There is a childrens' playpark, a tourist train and a beach in the town centre. We would love to return to Portugal again in the future and would definitely consider staying in this beautiful villa again. Response: Reviews are always appreciated none more so than from busy parents with 2 young babies to look after. Knowing how stressful it is to prepare for a family holiday, we do try to help by providing some of the items that are needed with a young family. Our baby pack we feel does do that as well as cut down on potential excess luggage costs that we have all been caught out on at some time. I do hope we welcome you back again in the not too distant future. Again many thanks for being so appreciative of our home as well as Clube Golfemar and Carvoeiro as a holiday venue. |

This has to be one of the best villa/locations we have used in the past 7 years of our golf breaks Villa was very cleanand and tidy with everything you could possibly need this villa had it. Patio was pleasant to sit on and sip your pre/after dinner drinks in very quiet surroundings. Villa was not far to local restaurants if you didn't want to go into Carvoeiro The town itsself had such a selection of eating places you were spoilt for choice. The walk into town took about 35/40 mins, which was pleasant during the day but a 5 euro taxi ride back at night was well worth it Some of the cliff top walks were also breathtaking, the path was a bit rocky but well sign posted . All in all a very pleasant stay and Iwould definately book again Response: Seasoned travellers and golfers comments are so welcome and we are delighted that they have found our home worthy of such praise and we hope that they return to experience the golfing opportunities that the Algarve has to offer. |
