About this location
The Dordogne region
Dordogne is a beautiful area of SW France with a variety of landscapes and vistas. Villefranche de Lonchat is in the very SW corner and is very much a wine growing area with Bergerac vineyards in the village itself & stretching East to Bergerac. To the West after a couple of miles you enter the Bordeaux wine growing area with superb wines from Lussac, Puissegain & St. Emilion too. So there are lots of wine tasting & buying opportunities - 3 in our village are superb & inexpensive.
The village offers everything you need apart from a filling station but there are the usual larger supermarket, hypermarket & restaurant opportunities in Montpon & Castillon (both 15 minutes away).
Local lakes offer lovely leisure activities & walks.
The weather is usually about 5 degrees warmer than the South of England but can get very hot in July & August.
Bordeaux is a beautiful city with lots to see & do. We usually take the train from Montpon, eat in a brasserie & visit a gallery or show or shop to drop!
Bergerac is small, quaint & very picturesque. It's easy to park right next to the river then walk up through the medieval streets to find a restaurant or go to the market.
St Foye La Grand has one of the biggest & best markets in France on a Saturday - great stalls, entertainment & atmosphere.
