The Donegal region

Donegal provides a brilliant backdrop for the plethora of activities which the County offers. Golfers need not go far to find a green, Anglers can cast upon the many lakes and rivers, or simply Trek along the vast landscape on horseback.
Fintra Beach: The beautiful strand is only a short distance out of town and has Blue Flag status. It lies in a large cove which shelters it from the Atlantic breeze and is an excellent location for bathing and watersports.
Walks: Visitors can avail of several excellent local walks, the routes of which have been designed to give the maximum variety and interest.
Hill Walking: Slieve League, the highest sea cliffs in Europe are 10 minutes away - near These cliffs offer spectacular views over the Atlantic and offer a wide range of easy to difficult walks.
Pony Trekking: at scenic Derrylahan, Kilcar. Just 2 miles from Carrick. The tourist information office will give full details of times and prices.
Bruckless Farm, Darney is an open farm with pony trekking. They are 5 minutes out of Killybegs toward Donegal Town.

Carrick / Glencolmcille area

Golfing: Narin and Portnoo 18 hole Golf club, is about 20 minutes drive from Killybegs through Ardara. There is also the 73 par links course at Murvagh near Donegal Town.
Pitch and Putt: Sandfield near Portnoo, a short distance from Killybegs.
Sea Angling: Daily sea angling charters depart from the pier in front of the Bay View Hotel, Killybegs, each morning.
Game Fishing The Glen river close by offers excellent Salmon fishing througout the season.Check for details on permits etc in the village
Boat Trips: Take the opportunity to charter a boat, from the centre of Killybegs or from Teelin pier to the famous Bunglas, Slieve League sea cliffs. This is an excellent opportunity to get a close look at marine life including whales which sometimes come inshore at the end of the summer.
Scuba Diving: the pollution free waters along the coast make it ideal ground for diving. Mailnbeg and Teelin are the most suitable bases, with compressor facilities available at the Malinmore adventure centre.
Windsurfing: three excellent beaches together with many lakes make Carrick a natural centre for such activity.
Hang gliding: the hang gliding association of Ireland has indicated that nearby Glencolmcille is a most suitable part of north-west Ireland for practice and training.
Swimming - at the nearby sandy beach of Port a' Chabhlaigh is safe and clean even though the black tracks in the sand may look off putting, it is only the turf mould carried from the bogland by the small stream at the top of the beach. There are also three lovely beaches in Glencolmcille but the jewel among the crown is the sheltered cove known as the Silver Strand at Malinbeg.
Rock climbing - South west Donegal, from Muckross head to port, offers a combined total of almost 100 routes or climbs. Over 50 of these are listed at Mailnbeg and Sliabh a’Liag. They are graded "difficult" to "extremely severe". (consult handbook, the Federation of Mountaineering clubs of Ireland, edited by Dawson Stelfox, the first Irishman to scale the summit of Mt. Everest in 1993)
Tennis: a hard court is situated at the entrance to pairc na ngael in Glen and is available to visitors. Racquet's can be hired at lace house.
