The Central Ireland / County Leitrim region
Carrick-on-Shannon is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the North West of Ireland. Surrounded by stunning lakes, this relatively undiscovered part of Ireland is easy to get to by car, bus, rail or air. It is ideally located just 1 hour 40 minutes from Dublin, 2 hours from Belfast, 40 minutes from Sligo.
Places to visit include Marble Arch Caves, Glencar Waterfall, 12th century Boyle Abbey, 17th century King Town House, Swan Island Animal Farm, Parkes Castle, Florence Court and St George's Heritage Centre.
Activities include Lough Key Forest & Leisure Park, one of the largest forest parks in Ireland, with the Adventure Play Kingdom, the Tree Canopy Trail, nature walks, pleasure cruisers and more, highly recommended. There is also the Mulvey Centre with ten pin bowling and indoor adventure playground for children and the Aura Leisure Centre with swimming pool etc.
There are three nearby golf courses including the Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Course which is known for its variety and lovely scenery.

Carrick-on-Shannon is a lovely town located directly on the Shannon River. It is the ideal location for a relaxing holiday with many nearby attractions and plenty of activities to choose from. There is something to please everyone from fishing, horse riding, cycling, nature walks, sailing, cruises, water sports, golf etc.
Carrick-on-Shannon is internationally acknowledged as an Anglers paradise, and has hosted national and International fishing competitions. Withing a 10km radius there are no fewer than 41 lakes, all of which are free unrestricted and easily accessible.
It is a short walk from the house, over the bridge and into the town of Carrick. The town itself has a lively atmosphere and is lovely to walk around with plenty of entertainment, nice places to eat and shop. You can also take an hour cruise down the Shannon on the Moon River boat.
How to get there
Carrick-on-Shannon is just a 1 hour and 40 minute drive from Dublin, 2 hours from Belfast, 40 minutes from Sligo.
Bus Eirann provides a service four times a day to and from Dublin. The train, Iarnrod Eireann, also goes several times daily to and from Dublin, within walking distance of the town centre.
