Feile na Doilin Festival - This is the West of Ireland's premier maritime festival which is held annually on the August Bank holiday weekend in Carraroe. The festival revolves around the ancient and beautiful Galway Hooker boat. From Paráid na bhFathach (Parade of the Giant) to the Parade of Sail, lectures on maritime history and boat-making exhibitions, there really is no better place in Ireland. There really is something on offer for everyone for this festival for both young and old.
The Western Ireland region
Fishing (0.25 - 1 mile) - Loughaunwillin, or Carraroe Lough, lies to the north of the village. It holds a big stock of wild trout.
A delightful cottage located a mere stroll from Carraroe village less than an hours drive from both Clifden and bustling Galway City. Offering superb views of Carraroe Lake, the cottage has been lovingly restored to provide welcoming accommodation full of character and original features. The Blue Flag Coral Beach is only 1 mile away with the Connemara Isles Golf Course 4.5 miles away. Great days out can include Connemara National Park, ferry trip to the Aran Island (5 miles) or a spot of fishing with brown trout available on the lake or deep sea fishing further out.
Connemara Isles Golf Club (5 miles) - Located in the heart of Connemara, this distinctive island course offers a unique opportunity to play golf on the edge of the Atlantic ocean while enjoying the breathtaking views of Cill Chiaráin Bay, Cnoc Leitir Móir and Cnoc Mordáin. This 9 hole golf course is a golfers gem. Playing the first 9 holes is a challenge, however playing the back 9 tees is a memory. After the game relax in the friendly atmosphere of Irelands only thatched club house and experience the magical beauty of the Irish language.
