The Provence region
Vaucluse is known for beautiful scenery, mountains, fantastic provencal food and famous worldwide for its wine.
Its easy to understand why so many artists settled here, its blessed with amazing light, blue skies and sunshine 300 days of the year!
There are suspended villages, chateaux, roman ruins, local food markets, wine tasting, restaurants, painting and cooking courses, horse riding, cycling, hot air ballooning, rivers, caves and antique markets plus a whole lot more to do and explore. Lots of festivals take place throughout the season in the villages and towns around us, from music and art to theatre and dance
Avignon the old city of the popes is truly beautiful and packed full of exciting adventures and artistic exhibitions. Vaison la Romaine with its roman ruins, Isle sur la Sorgue world famous antique market . Gordes built into a mountain and all the Luberon villages are all within 30 minutes drive from the house
Caromb is situated 25 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Avignon - its a small village at the foot of the Mont Ventoux mountain, wonderfully relaxed with far less tourist, yet within easy reach of all the hotspots. The village dates back to medieval times, inside the old part there are no cars, as the streets are too narrow, perfect for walking around
The house is in the original village, with local shops just a moments walk. There's a boulangerie (bakery), two cafes, small restaurants, butcher, grocery shops, a bank machine, pharmacy, weekly farmers market and a very big wine co-operative...viva la France!

"Lovely place with a fascinating history"
We spent a wonderful 3 nights in July at Le Vieil Hopital as our base to be near Mont Ventoux. The purpose of our trip was to undertake a bike-ride challenge up Ventoux and the village of Caromb was perfectly situated for this - just a short drive to Bedouin for the start of the challenge - but much less hectic than Bedouin itself. Caromb is a very pretty village, well serviced with plenty of shops and a number of restaurants and bars. The accommodation was lovely with a really interesting history explained in detail by the wonderful hosts - Ian and Axelle. They were very warm and friendly. They made us feel very welcome and clearly had a huge passion for their home, for art and for music. The building, a hospital centuries ago, is beautiful with a feeling of serenity and calm. Our apartment had 2 outside areas, one overlooking a shady courtyard for dining in comfort and the other, a sunny terrace with the most amazing views of Mont Ventoux and the surrounding area which was just perfect for apero time and watching the sun go down. Inside, the apartment was very comfortable, nicely furnished, great shower and a fairly well equipped kitchen. I would definitely recommend a stay at Le Vieil Hopital if you are in the area.

"feeling welcome... and what a beautiful details"
We came to caromb because we want to cycle for a few days and to "climb" the mont Ventoux. We went 4 days later having done it and having a new experience in staying in gast houses. Axelle en Ian have created such a beatiful place in the way they decorate the place. every place (from the bathroom to the stairs tot the sleeping rooms) breathe a nice balanced and "wantingtoexplore" energy... And axelle and ian self are open harted people...with a nice aerthy spiritual energy... I definately want to come back....

"A unique & wonderful experience that stays with you."
This place is magical! The hopital is a most intriguing setting and you immediately get a sense of the long history of hospitality. We rented the top floor apartment which has two rooms. This was a most pleasant and spacious experience. There is plenty of room and variation for an extended stay. The terrace has a wonderful view and is most inviting. The bed I slept in (the bed room next to the terrace) provided some of the best sleep I can recall. Finally Axelle & Ian are warm and wonderful hosts that makes you feel at home.
Thank you for your review Thomas, Yes this historic house seems to attract guests looking for a unique experience. It was our pleasure to meet you all and have you stay here... a&i

"Amazing house, very welcoming hosts"
We stayed in one of the two apartments in Le Vieil Hopital in Caromb for two weeks. The remarkable old house, which was a pilgrim hostel and a hospital run by nuns, is being renovated by the charming and hospitable owners, Ian and Axelle, who made us feel very welcome. The apartment has two lovely terraces, one overlooking Mt. Ventoux where we spent almost every evening watching the sun go down and the birds swooping down. The other terrace is shady and great for breakfast or relaxing and reading. The kitchen and bathroom are well-equipped and there is a washing machine and dryer in the cellar area. Books and DVDs and maps are available to borrow. During our stay the hosts held a musical evening with friends and neighbours - they are both talented performers - with a barbecue afterwards in one of the outdoor spaces. Caromb itself is a real village, with good shops, a weekly market and a couple of restaurants and the local area is full of interesting places to visit.
HI Sue thank you so much for the kind review. we hope you all have a wonderful christmas and the new year brings lots of good things... with love...a&i

"This house is just magic!""
