Throughout the region there are National Trust and privately owned houses, castles, wild animal parks, galleries and theatres to enjoy and there are many excellent restaurants, gastro pubs, traditional pubs and tea rooms offering the opportunity to sample the regions award winning produce.
Carnforth / Silverdale area
Silverdale, as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, captivates its visitors with its stunning scenery, birdlife, rare butterflies and flowers. The walks from the cottage door (120km of them!) offer amazing views of coast, limestone pavement, countryside and fells and the many ancient woods nearby are a delight to explore, particularly in Autum when they are clothed in vibrant colour. Beachcombing, building sandcastles, rock pooling and fishing on the beach outside are ever popluar with young and old alike. Local Stately Homes such as Leighton Hall, Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle make facinating places to visit and there are abundant Nature Reserves to enjoy including the RSPB reserve of Leighton Moss. The famous coastal railway from the village will take you to the many gems along the Cumbrian coast.
How to get there
Fishermans can be accessed by car within a 20 minute drive of Junction 35 of the M6 motorway. There is also a good train service to Silverdale. The local bus service waits for the train and will drop you a few minutes walk from the cottage door.
