The Cumbria/Lake District region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes – the Lake District landscape has inspired several literary greats, including William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Water, where you can cruise the lake on a steam-powered yacht soaking up the scenery in Victorian style, could be for you. Walking is one of the best ways of exploring the Lake District.
For the serious walker the mountains of Skiddaw, Scafell and Helvellyn provide enjoyable challenges, whilst at lower levels there are hundreds of routes wandering among the lakes and stone-walled fields. You can even choose a lake to suit your mood: if bustling lakeside towns and exhilarating watersports take your fancy, then Windermere and Coniston Water, where you can cruise the lake on a steam-powered yacht soaking up the scenery in Victorian style, could be for you. If it’s peace and tranquility you seek then the secluded lakes of Buttermere and Wastwater are not to be missed.
Yet Cumbria offers much more than the lakes alone. Explore the National Nature Reserve on Walney Island or visit the picturesque Duddon Valley, where the heather clad moors peppered with birch trees inspired many of Wordsworth’s poems. With its award-winning gardens and the Lakeland Motor Museum, Holker Hall is also a great day out, whilst in northern Cumbria the peaceful villages of Caldbeck and Ireby offer a haven of solitude and picturesque tranquility. To the east lies the green and sheltered Eden Valley. Its dramatic landscape provides a range of activities including walking, cycling and watersports and is home to the Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre and Lowther Wildlife Park, perfect for a family day out
The Carnforth / Arnside area
Situated on the shores of Morecambe Bay, the pretty and quiet coastal village of Silverdale is within easy driving distance of Both Silverdale and Arnside – each town being host to a good selection of shops, cafes and pubs. The local area surrounding the village is a paradise for nature lovers and boasts stunning limestone pavements, wonderful woodland walks through countryside and numerous rare plants, trees and wildlife, as well as the internationally renowned Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve, situated just one mile from Silverdale itself. Further afield but still within easy touring distance are the Lake District and Lune Valley as well as the stunning Yorkshire Dales and The Forest of Bowland.

It was an ideal place to get away from life's hussel and bussel. Lovely view for birds and wild life. The place was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Hope to return next year. Verified by FlipKey, a TripAdvisor company |
Guestbook for 684 - Pheasant Field
The location was stunning, the garden with patio was constantly alive with birds and wild life making a better program than anything on the television. The accommodation was beautiful and made for a very peaceful holiday which was just what we wanted.

,The cottage was all we could ask for and very good value for the price asked. The feeder station set up just off the patio made this extra special for us.

,It was quiet, private and great for our old dog Tilly. The bird table gave us a constant view of birds feeding, and the wild rabbits were adorable. The place was clean and cosy with everthing we needed. We intend to go back next year.
