The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Carmarthenshire region
Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. Snowdonia National Park, situated in North Wales, boasts breathtaking mountain scenery, crystal clear lakes and cascading waterfalls. Climb Snowdon, which at 1085m is Wales’ highest mountain, or travel to the summit in style on the charming Mountain Railway. Alternatively, why not sample the beautiful green valley of Llangollen by steam train or from a leisurely horse-drawn canal boat.
In July, the annual Llangollen Eisteddfod transforms the town into a unique centre of international music and dance, attracting musicians and singers from across the globe. You could also explore the beautiful coastline, safe sandy beaches and watersports of the Lleyn Peninsula, as well as Colwyn Bay, historic Conwy, Victorian Llandudno or the Isle of Anglesey on the north coast. To the south, there’s the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park, a haven of rugged moorland, forests and mountains that’s just perfect for nature lovers and walkers.
Finally, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is renowned for its wildlife, stunning coastal scenery, superb beaches and as the home of Britain’s smallest city, the City of St David’s.
Carmarthen area
Carmarthen is a busy and thriving Norman market town, situated close to the Brecon Beacons National Park. The town is renowned for its busy market where you will find stalls selling produce from Swansea to Cardigan Bay, cheeses from Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, local organic foods, farmhouse salt-bacon, sausages, delicious cockles from the beaches of South Wales and the renowned laver bread.
Carmarthen is Wales' oldest town with a history extending back over 2,000 years. Romans inhabited the area and there is evidence of a Celtic church dedicated to St. Teulyddog. The Roman town's layout is preserved in the modern street pattern to the east of St Peter's Church, whereas the evidence of the Norman occupation, the Castle, is situated on a rocky knoll overlooking the River Tywi. Today, the town has a great selection of pubs, restaurants and shops and there are many attractions in the vicinity, such as Dylan Thomas’s Boathouse and the National Botanical gardens of Wales.

"As you can see the overall standard of our cottage was excellent; the location was superb, peace and tranquillity, right up our street." -Mrs Croll, Liverpool, Merseyside August 2006
"The property is ideal for a family. We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday, lots to do in the area but you do need a car to get about. " -Mrs Lowe, Runcorn, Cheshire August 2006
