The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Carmarthenshire region
Carmarthenshire is known as the "Garden of Wales" and its easy to see why. Rolling countryside and picturesque views await in this idylic Welsh county.
Llansteffan has been described as Wales’ best kept secret - a sort of Never Never land known only to locals, and the lucky descendants of those generations of Rhondda miners who trekked annually down west, on the train to catch the ferry from Ferryside to Llansteffan, for Miners Fortnight during the 19th and early 20th Century.
The Carmarthen / Llansteffan area
Attractions within easy reach are the National Botanical Gardens of Wales, The Chocolate Farm, Pendine Sands and Pembrey County Park. If sport is of interest - Ffos Las Racecourse, Llanelli Scarlets and Carmarthen Town FC. The village of Laughaurne is approximately 20mins away by car, where you can visit Laughaurne Castle and Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse.
Llansteffan - There are two beaches and a castle to explore, and whether you are into walking, fishing, sailing or just relaxing, there is something for everyone.
How to get there
Click map icons for more information
From Cardiff direction - follow the M4 westbound. Follow signs for Carmarthen as the M4 motorway becomes the A48. Stay on the A48, and as you approach the roundabout for Carmarthen town you will see a B&Q on the left, and a Tesco straight in front. Turn left at this roundabout (after B&Q) and you see a left turn for Llansteffan. Take this left (the road doubles back on itself), and at the lights turn right. Follow this road, through Johnstown, for 5 miles. You will see a brown signpost for Hotel / Hostel - take this right hand turn into "Pant Yr Athro" and up to Elmrise Park.
Nearest airport - Cardiff / Ferryport - Fishguard.
