Home description
JUST OPEN FOR BOOKINGS AGAIN! A great cottage-style holiday home for larger families in the heart of the village of Pembrey, a walk to beaches, cycle tracks, friendly local pubs, championship golf and right beside a children’s playpark and mini rugby field. The home sleeps up to 10, although 8 is the perfect group.
The House Beside the Park offers features like off-road parking for two cars; a seven-burner, four-oven stove; a sunroom that opens to provide an indoor-outdoor entertaining area; and a safe enclosed garden for little guests.
You will find this a perfect touring location for days out in the Gower, Towy Valley, Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Of course, you may never want to leave the immediate neighbourhood, preferring to spend your time on seven-mile Cefn Sidan beach, the Pembrey Country Park, Millennium Coastal Path , Pembrey Motorsports Circuit or the Ashburnham Golf Course. In fact, there are three championship courses within five miles.
The house has views of Gower, the Ashburnham Golf Course and Pembrey Mountain. Using the bedrooms alone, the house sleeps six adults and two children or combinations of both! There is also a double sofa-bed in the TV lounge. We will even also consider a 2/3 person tent on the lawn, if you can accept the resulting pressure on the bathroom and kitchen!
Well-mannered pets are allowed if kept to the sunroom and garden. Bookable by the week as standard yet always check with us for 3/4/5 day short breaks in Spring and Autumn.
Cefn Sidan, the local beach
OK, so the house looks boring from this angle. Don't you believe it!
TV lounge - good for board games too.
Bedroom 2 has a view of the Gower Peninsula

The West Wales / Pembrokeshire / Carmarthenshire region
When you can drag yourself away from the pleasurable village of Pembrey, you will find it is perfectly placed as a base to explore the whole of West and South Wales.
The south-ward peninsula you can see from the house is the Gower, a national park. Here, Rhossili has been voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world but we think Three Cliffs and Oxwich give it a run for its money.
Head west for Pembrokeshire and the walled town of Tenby, Britain’s smallest city St. Davids and much more. Here you will find Oakwood theme park which, on its own, is a day out for families with children. Folly Farm is nearby. Seek out Bosherston Lily Ponds, Pembrokeshire’s great secret, but don’t forget to wander round Pembroke Castle while you are there—Henry Tudor’s birthplace.
Slightly north of Pembrey Mountain is the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Sounds boring but don’t you believe it … this place has lots to see and do. Go further north and you’ll find the dramatic Brecon Beacons along the way from picturesque Llandeilo.
Going east may not seem to make sense as you probably drove past the area to get to Pembrey. Yet, the children will love the National Wetlands Centre and, a few miles on, the National Showcaves of Wales at Dan-yr-ogof. This is a better theme park than a proper theme park! Swansea has ten-pin bowling, the incredibly hi-tech interactive National Waterfront Museum, one of those laser-game places, a glass pyramid housing Plantasia and a magnificent new leisure centre that’s probably the best in Europe at the moment. Can your family face The Master Blaster?
Don’t want to drive? Then walk up to Burry Port’s harbour and take an overnight cruise instead by Celtic Cruises. Coach tours also operate from Llanelli—the booking office is in the main shopping centre. You will find your own favourites too, of course. Please add notes about them into the House Book so future guests can enjoy them as well.
Carmarthen Bay area
Starting with Pembrey village itself and working out by 2/3 miles, here’s a quick guide to enjoying a family holiday based at the House beside the Park.
Next door: Bring a rugby ball and aspire to greatness! For keen young players and out-of-condition Dads, the mini-pitch through your garden gate may not be Twickenham or the Millennium Stadium but a try is still a try! Worth an hour while lunch cooks.
Pembrey's History: Find Pres. George W. Bush’s ancestral family—Butlers - coat of arms and the grave headstone of Napoleon’s niece at St. Illtyds Church by the village square. Head up Mountain Road for Cwrt House, made famous by BBC2’s Restoration Village. Pembrey Old Harbour is fascinating.
Country Park: This is probably the main reason to choose Pembrey. A stunning beach, dry ski slope, toboggan ride, forest walks, model train rides, mini-golf, barbecue areas, great fishing, nature trail, horse-riding and so much more.
Pembrey Coastal Path: A cycle path, a walk, a source of flowers and berries or just a way to reach Burry Port Harbour and the Country Park. However you use it, this is a very special thoroughfare within sight of the house.
Pembrey Motorsports Circuit: The home of Welsh motorsport is a five-minute drive away from the house.
Walks: From gentle stroll to adventurous hike, the village, beach and “mountain” provide quite a choice. You’ll find a few ideas in the House Book when you arrive but there’s more to explore.
For children: The beach, country park and the little park next-door will keep them happy if you don't want to drive.
Nearby: the NEW £16 million Ffoslas, Trimsaran, horse racing centre opening for summer 2009 (Google for it!); Dylan Thomas' Laugharne; castles at Kidwelly, Llanstephan and many other promontaries; a little railway just outside Carmarthen; the NEW Pemberton rugby stadium and harbour quarter at Llanelli.
Golfers: Enjoy Ashburnham, Nicklaus-designed Machynys, Glyn Abbey, Pennard, Garnant Park, Tenby and even the Wales National courses.
How to get there
By Road From the M4, leave at junction 48 and turn left on the A4138. Enter Llanelli by the A4214 and exit by the A484. After five miles, you will see Pembrey Church on your immediate left. Turn left into Pembrey Square. You are now exactly 200 miles from London and 200 metres from the house.
By Rail Pembrey & Burry Port Station is on the main line from London Paddington to West Wales. Most trains require a change at Swansea but some go directly from London to Pembrey & Burry Port. Local taxis will get you to the house - call +44 1554 832525, for example.
By Air Cardiff International Airport has direct services to much of Europe (FlyBE, bmibaby) and is also on the KLM worldwide network. The house is also accessible from Bristol (Continental, Easyjet and Ryanair) and London Heathrow. In all cases, rent a car from the choices shown on the airport website and head for the M4.
By Sea There are ferry terminals at Pembroke and Fishguard that will lead you to the M4 from Ireland.
Private flight Pembrey Airport is just three miles away, beside the Motorsports Centre. It accepts most small corporate and light aircraft. Helicopters may land at the Ashburnham Hotel with permission, a short walk from the Pembrey house.
