The Cumbria/Lake District

The Eden Valley is one of the least populated and unspoilt areas of Cumbria and England and yet is a treasure trove of holiday activities, located within easy reach of the Border city of Carlisle and Penrith. The city of Carlisle forms the divide between England and Scotland. This fantastic landscape with acres of rolling hills and wide open countryside has a particular appeal for those who appreciate fresh air and walking in the outdoors. The area is a haven for outdoor activities and is extremely popular with walkers, cyclists, canoeists, fishermen and golfers.

There are walks for every level of walker, from the short walk for all the family, to the ascent of some of the highest peaks in the Lake District which is easily accessible from here. On the Eastern side, Located just 10 miles from the cottage is, yet another major attractions of the region - The most prominent remains of the Hadrian's Roman Wall World Heritage Site near Brampton in Northumberland. In this dramatic setting that was once the Northern Frontier of the Roman Empire.

Location : Situated only 2 miles from Jn 42 on the M6, the location provides easy access and is central for visiting the Northern and Eastern Lakes, the Pennine Hills, Carlisle, Hadrians Roman Wall and the Eden Valley. The city of Carlisle is within 5 miles with plenty of shops and local interests of border heritage. Scottish Borders are nearby with Gretna Green & the Solway Coast attractions within drivable distance.

"Great location, nice property, minor touches could improve even more"

We stayed at Chapel House for a week-long family holiday, using it as a base for exploring the Lake District and Hadrian's Wall sites with our young children. It is perfectly situated to do that … More

"Fantastic location for quiet week away"

A friend and I decided we wanted to start 2014 with some r&r, we found Chapel House cottage and our plan was set! Booking was simple and Sharu was always prompt in her responses to questions which was great. The cottage itself was lovely, bedrooms were stunning and house was stocked with pretty much everything you would need (other than a DVD player which would be a good addition)

The only comments we would make in terms of improvements would be some signage to find the cottage as that was a struggle ons arrival and a couple of tines during our trip we missed the opening! Also the WiFi wasn't great and definitely couldn't be relied upon if you were planning to work or stream media etc.

Overall we would give chapel house 4.5 out of 5 and we are looking forward to goi g back in the Spring.

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for your review. The Directions sheet to the cottage explains the exact location with a map. Also normally I get people to key in the postcode in their satnav which brings them straight to the cottage. We have not experienced this issue with other guests so far, however we will try to make the signage more visible and also look into the request for a DVD. Great idea ! Thanks.

As for the wifi, we have been experiencing some problems with the BT wifi since christmas, it has been notified to BT now. Hopefully it will get rectified soon.

Thanks again and hope to see you in the spring again,
Kind Regards,

"Lovely Views ,Beautiful Cottage"

We have just spent a week at this lovely cottage, Sharu was a pleasure to correspond with and made sure everything we required was in place. The cottage was lovely, nice and clean with every thing you need ,the views from the bedroom bay window are great, my grandchildren loved running around in the garden with our little dog. Not to far to travel if you fancy visiting the lakes, and if you dont fancy cooking there is a nice pub just up the road that does lovely food and make you very welcome . We will certainly go back again.

Maureen - That is lovely, Thankyou ! and I would love to see you here again.
Your Most Welcome !

"Perfect setting for a short break in a great location with amazing sunsets"

The cottage is in a great location with easy access to the peaceful Eden Valley which is great for cycling & away from the crowded Lake District Roads. Great pubs nearby in Cotehill, Armathwaite & Wetheral. Lake Ullswater only a 20 minute drive away. We had lovely dinners outside sat on the patio with lovely sunsets. The cottage had everything we needed and was spacious and well laid out. Overall a very peaceful place to spend a few days in a beautiful countryside setting.

Hello Hetta - Thankyou so much for your lovely review. Im so glad you found the cottage to be just what you were looking for in the Eden Valley. Please do visit again.
Many Thanks,
