The Granary is a stunning sandstone barn conversion boasting a number of original features in the quiet and unspoilt area around the Pennine Hills. It spans across three floors and has a unique layout. There is a spacious entrance hall with a wood burning stove, perfect for drying clothes and shoes on the ground floor, a kitchen, diner and bedroom on the first floor and the lounge, with vaulted ceilings and second bedroom on the second floor. The granary is ideal if you have horses with the neighbours offering to care for up to six visiting horses for a small fee. Dogs area accepted here too and with miles upon miles of unspoilt countryside to explore it's certainly a fantastic location for exercising both humans and animals!

Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.


The Granary sits in the quiet hamlet of Scalehouses between the villages of Croglin and Renwick. This quiet part of the Eden Valley enjoys more peaceful surroundings than the often busy crowds which the Lake District attracts. As well as fantastic walks and cycle routes the Eden Valley and the Pennine Hills boast a number of visitor attractions to suit everyone. There's the National Trust property of Acorn Bank, the Eden Ostrich visitor centre at Langwathby and the historical house of Hutton in the Forest near Penrith. Penrith is eleven miles from The Granary and was once the capital of Cumbria. It now provides visitors with a good mix of shops and historical sites including the castle ruins. Travel beyond Penrith to Ullswater to experience the very best of outdoor life in the Lake District. From sailing and mountain biking to hiking and wildlife watching you will never be short of things to see and do around the second largest lake in the Lakes.
