About the home

Coombs Cottage is a detached sandstone property situated near to a forest and the River Eden. Sleeping four in a double and a twin this four star property is ideal for a family of four with private garden, fabulous walks from the door and an abundance of wildlife at every turn. Its location, on the northern slops of the Eden Valley provides those who stay here with a peaceful setting away from the busier parts of the Eden Valley and the Lake District. Armathwaite is renowned for its salmon fishing, has an impressive castle and an excellent pub, The Fox and Pheasant Inn which has a restaurant in the stable barn serving home cooked food, real ales and fine wines.

The Cumbria/Lake District region

The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery.
This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits.
The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family.
The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base.
Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.

The Carlisle / Armathwaite area

Ramblers will feel right at home here with dozens of footpaths leading to the banks of the river Eden, a great place for a spot of lunch before an afternoons fishing. The Eden is one of the best places for salmon and trout fishing in the UK and there are a number of places which offer fishing tuition along its banks. Armathwaite has its own railway station along the Settle to Carlisle, one of the most scenic railway lines in the country. This is its final stop before entering the historical city of Carlisle. Penrith, once of the capital of Cumbria is to the south of Armathwaite and provides you with all the amenities you will need for your self catering holiday. As well as a number of attractions and historical sites it also gives great access to Ullswater, the second largest lake in the Lakes.
