The Isle of Wight region
The Isle Of Wight, situated of the South Coast of england is one of Britains finest holiday destinations. Originally made popular by Queen Victoria who had her maritime residence at Osbourne House, the Island is famous for sailing in the Solent; for Cowes Week; for its beautiful coastline including many sandy beaches and The Needles; spectacuar countryside and long sunshine hours. The Isle Of Wight is an ideal destination for visitors of all ages.
Carisbrooke area
Geographically located in the centre of the Island, Newport is its princi-pal town and main shopping centre. Enjoy browsing in the major chain stores or the many individual and intriguing little shops to be found in the lanes leading off the High Street and two main squares. Located next to the Medina River, Newport was once a busy port until the mid-19th century, but has now been mainly converted into a 'cosmopolitan style' town consisting of art galeries, apartments and other stylish meeting places. It has lots of wonderful restaurants, wine bars, pubs (cosy & traditional or something a little more lively!), 2 nightclubs, an arts centre which hosts comedy nights and much more.
