Villa Villekulla, the alternative Vacation in Villagrazia di Carini, Sicily
Pina (Giuseppa Misia) also called Pippi, is the owner of this house. So we gave the house the name of Pippi Long stockings house, Villa Villekulla. We, that is Pina, Sicilian artist and me Gunnar, German scuba instructor and since 1978 in Sicily, living in a cozy little house in Villagrazia di Carini not far from the Palermo airport.
For rent is the complete ground floor, devised in two apartments (we live upstairs with our own entrance) with large fully equipped kitchens, bedroom and bathroom. Veranda for hanging out or to eat outside in the sun or shade. 4 person can sleep in one and 3 persons in the other apartment. The beach is 20 – 25 minutes walking distance. Palermo is about 15 kilometres from here, you can get there by bus or train if you don't have a car.
The house is in a summer residence, so some confusion is to except only in high season period. The hustle and bustle in the village and on the beaches then also reached its peak. The walk to the village, by the way, takes about 10 minutes. Along the coast many bars open in the summer for drinks with music and entertainment..
Living with our guests we imagine something like this: Either we make something like a social community, or you go your own way, to say, we love to cook for you, we can dine together or individually. At dinner we are very flexible, whether fish or meat or vegetarian, only the best products are coming in our house. Pina is an excellent cook and can lead you back and forth across the Sicilian kitchen, I'm more an experimental type, with me everything's going to be European at the stove. Fruits and vegetables are mostly organic produce.
If you would like nothing more than the house, you get the keys and that's it. Bed linen and towels are there and can on demand be changed at any time, otherwise once a week.
Pina is more or less in place while I go to Terrasini every day to do my job in my scuba center. So if someone wants to come with me in the boat to the sea and admire the grottoes of Terrasini or simply want to learn to dive.. Or if you prefer watch Pina while painting, better still, participate actively, no problem..
My job is not necessarily so that I never have time, some excursions to the surrounding attractions are always possible, otherwise you can rent a car here nearby with my assistance. The airport is ten minutes from here, don't worry, here you never hear planes taking off and landing or even while flying.

The Sicily region
With a total surface area of 25.460 sq. km, Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean basin. Around it lies a number of smaller islands: to the north the Aeolian islands and Ustica, to the West the Egadi, and to the south the Pelagie islands and Pantelleria, making a total surface area of 25.708 sq. km. Sicily boasts around 1.000 Km of coastline, mostly rocky in the north and sandy in the south.
The landscape is varied, prevalently mountains and hilly, but with an expanse of plains around Catania. In the eastern part of the island Mount Etna (about 3.330 m) is Sicily's highest mountain, the whole of which is a protected area within a national park. Still active, it is the biggest volcano in Europe. Along the north coast of Sicily, from east to west, lies a stretch of the Peloritani and the Nebrodi and Madonie Mountains, some of their peaks reaching 2,000 m.
The area to the West of the river Torto has an irregular lime-stone formation, patchy or continuous, alternating with low rolling hills. Over to the east of the island, between Messina and Mount Etna, lies the easternmost tip of the Peloritani chain, very similar to the mountains of Calabria. The Southeast corner of Sicily comprises a series of high plateaus made up of lava, tuff and above all limestone, and features a number of impressive gorges carved out by water erosion through the centuries. The innermost part of the island is predominantly hilly, consisting mainly of the so called Altopiano Solfifero (literally the sulfur uplands), with altitudes ranging from 500-700 m. Its summit, however, with the snow, rises to almost 1.OOO m.
Sicily's principal cities include the regional capital Palermo, together with the other provincial capitals Catania, Messina, Syracuse (Siracusa in Italian), Trapani, Enna, Caltanissetta, Agrigento, Ragusa. Other famous Sicilian towns include Cefalù, Taormina, Bronte, Marsala, Corleone, Castellammare del Golfo and Francavilla di Sicilia.
I hope you enjoy this Portal site for business and tourism, with index and search facility, also providing an introduction to the island, with maps and photographs of Sicily. Any suggestions are welcome.
Carini (Latin:Hyccara) is a town and comune in the Province of Palermo, Sicily, 13 miles by rail WNW of Palermo. It has a population of 25,752.
On the coast are some ruins of the ancient Hyccara, the only Sican settlement (probably a fishing village) on the coast. It was stormed and taken by the Athenians in 415 BC, and the inhabitants, among them the famous courtesan Lais, sold as slaves. At La Grazia Christian catacombs have been found.
Villagrazia di Carini is a fraction of Carini (6 KM), near the sea. Mostly frequented in summer residences by people from Palermo.
Distance to Palermo about 25 KM.
