Cardona area
Cardona: 3 km from Cal Cabreta. (30 minutes walk).
Cardona, situated in the heart of Central Catalonia, is the historic capital of a well-defined territorial and commercial area around the Cardener central river basin, at the westernmost end of what is now Bages county, bordering on Berguedà and Solsonès counties. With a history of settlement going back as far as humanity's use of salt, Cardona is shaped by a trio of outstanding attractions: the salt mines, the castle and the old town. A stay in Cardona enables visitors to enjoy a host of natural and cultural heritage sites both in the town and in the immediate vicinity. From the Salt Mountain to the castle keep, from the Romanesque Church of Sant Vicenç to the streets of the town, lined by noble buildings, everywhere is evidence of the interrelations between humanity and salt over the centuries. In short, Cardona is a modern, forward-looking town that displays its past to us in the form of outstanding heritage and culture.
