The South Wales region
Cardiff and surrounding countryside has Castles, the Welsh Folk Museum and other museums, good restaurants and theatres. Cardiff City Centre is a haven for serious shoppers with John Lewis and the St David’s one and two shopping centres. For Golfers, the Celtic Manor resort is around 45 minutes drive with it’s Michelin Star Restaurant and SPA.The Designer Outlet Village is located at McCarthur Glen, Bridgend.
Barry Island has two beaches-Jackson’s Bay (the smaller of the two beaches) is backed by cliffs, so is also secluded. It’s certainly different from the fish’n’chips bustle of Whitmore Bay (the main Beach and a short walk). View the boats in the little marina that’s been built and, also see some of the larger ships. The sand is very soft and the water suitable for swimming and paddling. Just above the bay on the cliff top is a pleasant area laid out as lawns, are the remains of the original chapel dedicated to the Celtic Saint Baruc, after whom Barry is named.
Whitmore Bay is well featured in ‘Gavin and Stacey’ with amusement arcades, featured café bars, small shops and Gavin and Stacey tours. Both Jackson’s Bay and Whitmore Bay are sandy beaches with coastal walks, pub's, gastro pubs, restaurants, and local small shops.
There are excellent bus and train services (including Thomas the Tank engine seasonal tours) from the island (Barry Island station is 20 minutes to Cardiff Central station)
Nearest pool is the Barry leisure centre with other leisure amenities. The Waverley and Balmoral paddle steamers operate site seeing trips around Flatholme and Steepholme islands from Penarth Pier and day cruises to Ilfracombe.

As there where 5 of us plus a child we found this house had more than enough rooms and the location was great. It would have been nice to have been able to dry our clothes after washing as the week we… More
Property sleeps 10 in luxury. The decor is personal to individual taste. This is the first review that I have received criticism as all my other guests have been delighted. The clothes drying was an unexpected event .

"Wonderful welcome and wonderful accomodation."
This was a well equipped and comfortable home. We have 6 children and there was plenty of space for us. We were greeted with essential such as milk and lovely extras like wine and chocolates. This was a luxurious home from home and we found loads to do in the surrounding area.
I am very pleased you all had such a nice time

"a wonderful property-spotless with everything you could possibly need"
Just returned from a four night stay in Barry. Bev was the perfect host leaving welcome gifts that included beautiful flowers, Welsh cakes and very useful milk! The house was fantastic, spotless and comfortable, with all you could need. Our party of seven had plenty of space to share-the extra sitting room being very useful. Lovely sea views which encouraged leisurely coastal walks. The fish and chips on the front at Barry Island (Whitmore Bay) were exceptional. There was plenty of information in the house to suggest where to visit in the surrounding area and Bev had left information about where to eat out. Couldn't have asked for more.
Welcome back anytime

"A gem of a home, not just a rental house on Barry Island"
Just returned from 3 nights at this wonderful home and it really does feel like home immediately as you enter through the door. Bev was an outstanding host, all booking enquiries dealt with swiftly even met us on arrival and supplied wine, cakes and milk! All the essentials after a long drive from Kent. House has everything and more for either a long or short break, felt comfy the moment we arrived for our family get-together of 9! Very spacious and well equipped house for us all, spotlessly clean, lovely garden, easy parking and short walk to the local beaches. Bev even arrived on our departure to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Will definitely return if just for the Welsh cakes! Thanks again Bev!
