The Costa de Lisboa/Lisbon region
Portugal is still a great holiday deal when you live like a native, and in this apartment, ideally located along the coast between Lisbon and Cascais in the charming village of Carcavelos, you'll do just that.
The apartment is situated about 150 meters away from the large Praia de Carcavelos and is about 400 meters away from the train station which has a regular train that runs along the Lisbon coast from Cascais to Lisbon. Bicycles can be hired locally in Cascais, which is a 10-12 minute train ride away, and there is a bicycle path which stretches for miles along the beautiful coastline to Guincho Beach. There is also a regular bus service to Guincho Beach, #405. The #403 will get you to Sintra.
Another useful route is the #406 from Cascais to Cascais Shopping ( a mall type shopping centre on the outskirts of Cascais&Estoril) It stops in Estoril by the beach before returning to Cascais terminus. Night life includes the local CocoNuts Club in Cascais which spills out onto the beach and rocks at the back. Or take in the International Show and/or Dinner at the Estoril Casino.
For the very young or young at heart, take a stroll through the local park (Parque Municipal da Gandarinha) in Cascais. There is an infant playground & mini zoo where you can feed the ducks - or just sit at the local café and read a book whilst peacocks strut their stuff all around you. At the Praia de Carcavelos located 150 meters away from the apartment, there are surf lessons available for beginners or experienced surfers in small private lessons or large group lessons.
Sit out in the late afternoon and enjoy the sunset on the Esplanade Bar in Cascais (Praia da Rainha), whilst enjoying a champagne sangria, or walk down to the bars along the Carcavelos beach and enjoy watching the sunset there. Or if you're an early riser, catch the auctions in the Cascais square where the fishermen sell their daily catch. Market days are Thursday (full market day - clothes, souvenirs and house decorations) in Carcavelos and the market days in Cascais are Wednesday (full market day) and Saturday (fresh produce).
There are many walking routes in the mountains (parts of it protected by World Heritage) behind Cascais, if you wish we can provide information and/or contacts to the local walking groups here.
Carcavelos area
Nearby two 4-star hotels have pool and gym facilities available per diem, a taxi stand and tennis club. A small shopping centre offers every service needed, including a supermarket, and the delightful Praceta next door has restaurants for every taste and budget. With shopping and dining within easy walk, there's no need for a car, but rental agencies are just a few minutes up the train line.
The apartment is a two-minute walk from the longest beach on the Estoril coast, host to international surfing, kite surfing and wind surfing contests. At one end stands the imposing 16th Century fort of Sao Juliao de Barra, once used as a political prison, at the other a broad outcropping of ocean rock locally renowned for its curative iodine. In between stretches a colorful boardwalk dotted with restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs.

The Cascais-Lisbon train that runs every 10 minutes is only a short walk away. We offer private guided car tours for excursions to famous sites.
