About the owners:
We're a couple in our early thirties who outgrew this apartment and moved into a larger one. I'm a Telecommunications Engineer and Claudia is a school-teacher.
Year purchased: 2006
Why we chose an apartment in this location:
I've grown near this apartment, it was a dream come true for me to buy this previledged apartment next to everything I love. As a couple we loved watching the starry nightsky during the summer confortable nights outside in the terrace, we loved bringing friends over to the terrace, listening to some soft music, relaxing outside all day long in the hammock or the loungers. We'd go for our nightly walk in the sea promenade. We'd go out at night to the most various places by train without worrying about drunk driving. We're detail oriented, so everything in this house was thought out to provide you the same kind of experience we had while living here, and I've got to tell you, it was truly amazing.
Unique benefits of the property:
Breathtaking, silent in the night, tweet of birds during the day, huge nightsky over the ocean (should weather permit). You should see the thunderstorms...they light the whole place up through the huge windows facing the sea. Every little detail in this house was carefully thought out...we're not cutting any corners as we owe a lot to this place. We passionately believe it deserves to show itself to you in its full glory. No need to convince you on the benefits of the seaview and the proximity to the beach. Go everywhere in town, see everything then come back to a relaxed, tranquil and very easygoing environment. Have some great guys giving you suggestions should you need them: us.

The Central Portugal region
It's 15 minutes away by car or train from Portugal's capital city, Lisbon. In the Estoril Coast has a wonderful climate and is a superb natural environment.
Owing to a Mediterranean type micro-climate, the Estoril Coast has mild winters and an ideal summer temperature which never gets too hot. The autumn is ideal and is like a second spring.
Nowhere else in the world can such dramatic changes of scenery and such contrasting atmospheres be experienced in as small an area as the Estoril Coast. The region offers a concentration of different experiences all within a half hour's drive. Apart from an enormous range of sights attractive to any visitor, a number of more specialised interests can also be pursued.
Lisbon, one of the oldest and most fascinating capital cities in Europe, it has everything a city can provide: a unique atmosphere, a rich history back to the time of the discoveries, good shopping, entertainment of all types and a wealth of cultural activities.
Cascais was originally a small fishing port with tourism and a variety of properties situated on the sea front, it has now developed over the years into a very high standard place to live for many Portuguese. The town centre has kept its charm with a good selection of restaurants, shops, lively bars all located within the narrow cobbled streets.
Carcavelos is a parish in the Portuguese municipality of Cascais, about 12 km west of Lisbon. The village used to be known for the Carcavelos wine, but since the wine production is nowadays reduced, Carcavelos is better known among surfers because of the good surfing condition of the Carcavelos beach.
Carcavelos also marks the mouth of the Tejo River. To the east side of the Carcavelos beach there is a huge fortification named Forte de São Julião da Barra. It was used to protect the Tejo river entrance from enemy ships. Currently it is used as the official summer residence of the Ministry of Defense.
In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Carcavelos was an important landing point in the international telegraph network, providing crucial communication links for the British Empire. Most of the links were run by forerunners of the Cable & Wireless company.
Carcavelos is home to a number of international schools including Saint Julian's.

"Private Apartment with WiFi near Train, Beach, Lisbon & Everything"
We stayed in a penthouse beach apartment for last week. It is on the top floor of a residential building in Carcavelos, about 20 minutes outside Lisbon. It has a sneaky view of the ocean and a huge terrace with a grill. We loved sipping wine and nibbling on fruit and cheese on the terrace. Being a ten-minute walk from the beach meant we went every day. Our son kicked his soccer ball all the way down the pedestrian path each morning to the huge beach and watched the surfers like each was Neptune himself climbing out of the sea. The beach is one the biggest and best in the region with a surf school wind-surfing, beach soccer pitch, beach volleyball courts, cafes, a real historic fort, and so much more. It was a destination in itself. It was easy to access with a pedestrian tunnel that goes beneath the train stop. The tunnel has stairs and ramp access. The short walk meant we could visit the beach AND go into downtown Lisbon or take the train to Cascais or one of the other coastal towns or just sit on the terrace reading, knitting and doing absolutely nothing. We did all those things in our week there because with the train station less than two blocks away, we were out exploring as often as we were in being lazy.
The bedroom is a cheerful sea aqua color that balanced the crisp white linens. It was set up with a cot too, which was so thoughtful since they knew we were bringing our son! Impressive enough, he actually slept in it. The bed was very comfortable. The kind of comfort you think, "No, I'm not tired enough to nap." Until you wake up two hours later! I loved the natural basket light fixture.
On warm days, the place had air-conditioning so we could nap in a cool cocoon of calm. I've not been in an air-conditioned apartment in Europe like EVER so this felt luxurious. Travel books, fiction novels, cable TV and WiFi kept us informed and entertained in the apartment. In addition to decadent air-conditioning, the apartment also had all the usual things so we were able to cook our own meals and have a leisurely breakfasts first thing, not to mention prepare and wash baby bottles. How is it that doing dishes on vacation is even more fun?!
A dining table was set up with a highchair for our son and four chairs, so we felt comfortable when we'd dine at our home-away-from-home. It was nice to have a place to eat-in so we could relax and not always chase our toddler in restaurants. And we loved that all the wall art in the place showed us different beautiful views of Lisbon and the region. This place was ready for any kind of weather too since there was a tea set in the cupboard.
The fact that it is in a residential building meant that the neighbors were quiet and the amenities within three blocks (two bakeries, a grocery store, a local market, several cafes, a movie theatre, train station,...) were priced for locals and had useful things not just stupid floppy beach hats and tee-shirts printed with "Portugal". We loved the location! It was a great place for a kid too since nothing too precious was out for him to tumble over. The only drawback was it was on the top floor so we had to carry his buggy up, but on the bright side our son LOVED walking up and down the stairs himself so that tired him out a bit. Can you say "extended nap time"? Oh yeah, it was fabulous!
After the beach when we'd head somewhere on the train, we would grab a fresh pastry from the bakery around the corner. Yeah, it sounds as nice as it was. The bakery was recommended by Mrs. Adelaide who liaised with us to hand over the key and introduce us to the apartment and train system. She was knowledgeable and helpful in addition to speaking English, which was a relief to us. In fact, almost everyone we encountered spoke enough English for us to get by with only a few basic Portuguese phrases.
Now I'll admit that one of the best parts of this vacation was that it was stress-free. Once we decided to go, we just booked the apartment with Miguel and Claudia sent us links to videos and great travel tips ahead of time to help us plan our trip. They made it so easy and it was so much more affordable than a hotel would have been, plus most hotels don't have the fridge space required by a hungry toddler. We'll definitely be returning there. Next time, we may even have to surf!
There is nothing like a good true holiday to make you feel revitalised. I'm not talking about the vacation that wears you out so much you need to rest when you get home, but the real honest-to-goodness getaway that is the ideal balance of rest, relaxation, exploration, and great food. Well, that's what we enjoyed when we went to the apartment in Carcavelos last week.
Two blocks to train station (train goes from Lisbon to Cascais along the coast)
One block to grocery store
Two blocks to bakery, cafes, movie theatre
20-minute train to Lisbon or Cascais
10-minute walk to huge beach with surfing, windsurfing, volleyball, soccer, boardwalk
Easy booking process
Clean apartment with full kitchen, big terrace and baby basics
Quiet and private with shutters to keep place dark/cool in summer day heat
View of other apartments with peek at ocean between them

"Very good base to explore Lisbon and surrounding area."
We've chosen this apartment based on recommendation of a coworker. In fact, we found everything as described and shown in the web: rooms in good style, fully equipped kitchen, supermarket and train station very near.
If you intend to go to Lisbon on a daily base, then you should probably book something more close to Lisbon, but for us it was ideal: we went to Lisbon for two days by train (~30min in one direction to the end station), and the other days we were going by car to Cascais, Sintra, Mafra, Ericeira, etc. and Carcavelos is located quite in the center of all those places.

From the moment we booked this apartment to leaving the service was excellent, the hospitality wonderful and the actual apartment fantastic.
The location is within 2 minutes of the Station, and under 1 mile from the beach with sea views from the spacious balcony. The apartment is clean and fitted out to a good standard with a great kitchen area, bathroom and blacony furniture. The proximity to the Station allows you to explore capital , Lisbon and the coastline with ease. Recommend it !

"Lovely apartment run by extremely helpful people"
The penthouse is lovely and very charmingly decorated and the view over the ocean is very nice. Although it was getting colder outside, we still spent quite a bit of time relaxing on the rooftop terrace. The beach is very close, a nice 10 min walk; the station which will take you to Lisbon in 30 min and the shop are even closer. On arrival we were greeted by Adelaide and she was just as helpful as the owners Miguel and Claudia. Whenever we needed help or a favour, they responded before we could blink our eyes. We had a very nice time and wished we could have stayed longer! We will definitely go back to Portugal!

My boyf and I booked this accommodation for mid-Sept 2012 because it offered everything we wanted for our holiday. It was close to the beach and amenties and had a good sized balcony from the photos and so we were extremely excited to have found such an apartment.
Unfortunately, due to some personal circumstances, we were not able to commit to the holiday and Miguel, the owner, was able to offer a us a full refund of our deposit.
Miguel was extremely lovely and helpful in our booking process. He emailed us directions to get to the aprtment from Lisbon airport and plenty of information about the area, with recommendations and things to do whilst we were in Portugal after our booking. From the few emails we had from Miguel, we felt he would have been a great host and it is a real shame that we were not able to take our trip and enjoy the apartment, and meet him and his girlfriend in person.

"Great location and lovely apartment! Very happy!"
This really is a lovely place to stay in a great location! We arrived late friday night and was met by Miguel, Claudia and Mrs Adelade who were very accomodating, as we have a 2 year old they kindly offerred to meet us with a car seat at the airport which was a huge help..
We were provided complimentory coffee and a lovely bottle of red wine which I thought was very kind. The apartment itself is lovely, clean and has everything you need. The terrace is a great place to relax after a busy day.
Everything from the local Pingo shop to the bakery which does amazing sausage rolls my partner stopped there everday they were so good is on your doorstep.
Its a 10 minute walk to the beach which is relaxed and never too busy and a 2 minute walk to train station so its a perfect location for exploring. The apartment had several Lisbon guide books and we especially liked the alternative one worth a read!!
All in all there is little that can be said to fault this apartment and the couple who let it as they really do go the extra mile to help if you need any assistance and leave you to it if you dont!
We would definatly stay there again when we go back to Portugal, as for a couple or small family I think you would be hard pressed to find somewhere better within this budget.
Thanks very much happy holidays!

"Gorgeous country, comfortable apartment, well cared for place to stay"
Miguel and Claudia have a terrific place to stay. I know we will come back next year. The photos and description are accurate but missed out in explaining how lovely the people are. Cherries in season along with sardines....could not eat enough....
Highly recommend this apartment. Perfect size for a couple or with a child....

We had a super holiday in Miguel's apartment, (although I would not classify it as a beach apartment, it is a good 10 min walk to the seafront). The apartment is very well equipped and comfortab… More

"Everything we hoped for - and then some!!!!"
Miguel and Claudia met us when our cab pulled up in front of the apartment and we couldn't have been greeted more warmly. They are charming - excellent ambassadors for Portugal.
We had just finished a four day photography project in Sintra and were in need of some R&R. We couldn't have landed in a better spot!!! The apartment was meticulously maintained and was perfect in every way. The balcony was a welcome feature although we did experience some heavy rain for part of our stay. Didn't matter, we had WiFi and were happy to stay indoors and relax for a bit. When we did get out, it was wonderful. We walked to the beach and were thrilled to see dozens of surfers. The light at 5:00 pm was perfect for photos and the restaurant we chose was a wonderful outdoor cafe that served up a fresh grilled sea bass dinner and sangria that made watching the sunset over the water that much more magnificent.
A great bakery that had takeaway food - quiches and delectable pastries - and a grocery store literally 2 minutes away was so convenient.
Our only regret is that we needed more than a few days to explore this area and if we are lucky, we will have a chance to visit again. We recommend this apartment and thank you again Miguel and Claudia for your kind hospitality! Let us know if you plan to visit Toronto!!
