The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

The Languedoc-Roussillon is one of the most fascinating areas of Europe, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Pyrenees to the south. It benefits from a Mediterranean climate an unusually rich wildlife, and a surprising history.
Things to see include mountains, rivers and lakes, ancient cities, towns, villages, abbeys, and cathedrals, châteaux and castles, notably the famous mountain fortresses popularly known as Cathar Castles.
It possesses a number of World Heritage sites, including Carcassonne with its Cite Medievale and the Canal du Midi.
The Carcassonne / Ventenac-Cabardes area
Carcassonne is built around two medieval cities, the original Cité of Carcassonne on the north side of the river Aude, and the thirteenth century Bastide of Carcassonne on the South side of the River Aude. The older Cité is a spectacular walled town – the largest medieval town in Europe with its city walls intact.
The Cité of Carcassonne is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the setting for many films featuring medieval castles. It is one of the few sights in the world that genuinely justifies the epithet "breath taking". In recent years it has become a major tourist attraction, with many excellent restaurant. The Basilica of Saint-Nazaire often host concerts featuring orchestras and choirs from all over Europe. Throughout the summer months there many visiting groups. Noted for its Jazz week, Spanish week and usually a Son et Lumiere.
Ventenac-Cabardes lies at the centre of the Cabardes appellation the only French appellation to associate 40% minimum of atlantic grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Cot and Fer Servadou) with 40% minimum of Mediterranean grape varieties (Syrah and Grenache), completion of blends possible with 20% of Cot and Fer Servadou. This unique possibility is due to the position of the vineyard under an east - west transitional climate which naturally influences the local vegetation. Rose is also produced within the same appellation.

Can't wait to get back it really was a Reve-en-Languedoc. We couldn't get the children out of the pool.
Thanks again.
Fenton-Browns.
Already booked again. This has got to be the best value for money villa we've stayed in.
Andrew and Lindsay Mellors and family.
The villa was wonderful. Much more than we imagined. Exactly what we wanted, kids loved the pool and we felt so relaxed with the privacy. The firework display at the castle was amazing. We will definitely be recommending the villa to friends. Thanks for letting us enjoy Carcassonne again.
Karl and Liz. Maesteg, S Wales.
