The 18th century 2 double bedroomed farm cottage of Millepetit has been renovated with all modern comforts (including free WiFi internet access) and is situated on a small working vineyard and arable farm right on the banks of the famously picturesque Canal du Midi (UNESCO site). The award winning wines made on-site can be bought at 4 Euros per bottle and a complimentary bottle will welcome you on arrival. This all makes Millepetit an ideal opportunity to sample French rural life, yet it is still close to the Mediterranean beaches, mountains, history, culture and many visitor attractions in the area of Carcassonne. We would highly recommend your own transport to truly profit and maximise your enjoyment of this beautiful part of France, but bicycles are also available for exploring the canal. The small town of Trebes is a lovely 3km walk or bike-ride along the canal towpath, for all your necessities. Managed by English (and French) speaking owners who live on-site.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Once the heart of Cathar country, this region is full of history and interest. The Cité of Carcassonne (less than 15 minutes drive from the gite) was once one of the centres for the Cathars and still exists today, featuring in Kate Mosse's book of Labyrinth. There are numerous Cathar castles within an easy drive. There is also the famous village of Rennes le Chateau which inspired tales such as The Di Vinci Code. There are several Meditteranean beaches within 45 minutes drive and the mountains of the Pyrenees can be reached in a little over an hour for walking, climbing, mountain biking and winter skiing. The area is known for being the sunniest in France.
A small town which has both the River Aude and the Canal du Midi flowing through it and a canal port at the centre of the town. You will also find:
13th century church, with uniquely painted wooden figures and a magnificent 16th century stone cross
Choice of bars & restaurants (recommended:"Moulin de Trebes",only a short walk along the canal)
Open air market
Open air stadium
English bookshop (!)
Tourist information office
Boat & bicycle hire
Indoor swimming pool
Outside bathing lake
The town hosts two weeks of free music concerts during the month of June in the local outdoor arena.
The nearest large city is Carcassonne, where you will find:
The fortified "La Cité" of Carcassonne- a world heritage site
Charming French city centre (full of restaurants, shops, theatre, cinema etc.)
Le Cassoulet - typical French dish of the region

"View of canal obscured by tractors"
Unfortunately, when we arrived the view of the canal from the lounge was obscured by a row of tractors 8m. from the window, the private terrace was occupied by others and there was no secluded garden… More
We're very sorry that these guests were disappointed. However they stayed all of 10 minutes after arrival and never even went into the gite! It is true that there were tractors parked by the canal the afternoon when they arrived as the farmer was tidying his barn after the fruit harvest but if they had stayed another hour or 2 this was tidied up. Millepetit is a working farm and we cannot control the farmer but he is generally helpful and respectful with our guests. These guests do not seem to have read the property description. The private terrace in front of the gite was certainly not occupied - they did not even look there and we can only assume that they saw the canal-side terraces which are on canal land and therefore open to others to use. We do not claim to have a secluded garden. In fact these guests never paid to stay as they would not accept on-line or electronic payments so we agreed to take payment on arrival - this was never made. We always try to help and accommodate our guests as much as possible and the vast majority of guests love staying at the gite as shown in our other reviews, but unfortunately these guests seem to have expected something different to the description. Again we are very sorry!

Many thanks for your review, I'm very happy you enjoyed your holiday! A couple of points to mention - we only really get mosquitoes during the spring, April and May as the weather is too dry for them after that. Also the farm is busiest during Spring (fruit harvests) and autumn (grape and olive harvests) but it's great to watch! Summer and Winter are much quieter...
