The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

Carcassonne is located in Aude, which is a wonderful and diverse Department of the Languedoc region. Running right through the centre of Carassonne town is the Canal du Midi. It has the Pyrenees to the South, the Black Mountains to the North and the Mediterranean coast to the East. Carcassonne has both an old and new town. The old Cite is what Carcassonne is most famous for, the castle was built in the 13th century and has many musical and artisit events hosted there each year. Carcassonne benefits from a micro climate most of the year, which means the climate it very temperate. There are many local vinyards and caves, and in the summer months the fields dance with sunflowers.

Carcassonne area

Carcassonne is full of bustling streets which all lead to the heart of its new town - Place Carnot. Here you will find fountains and Platanes trees, you can sit for hours in one of the many cafe bars or restaurants and just soak up the atmosphere of this true Southern French town. Then there is the ancient cité with its fairytale spires which sits majestically overlooking the river Aude. Inside the old cité, you can imagine a world which is long past, there is a maze of tiny streets these days fiiled with quaint shops, bars and restaurants. Live music is often played in the main square and the highlight of each year is the fireworks on the 14th July.

Guestbook

What a fantastic place - the kids loved it and there was somewhere quiet for us. We will definitely go back.

This is a real haven of peace, with plenty of space and the sun terrace was a great place to top up my tan!

We have been back to Casa del sol twice this year and hope to come back next year, the new kitchen is a delight to cook in.
