Further details indoors:
On the east wing of the ground floor are 2 bedrooms – a generous master with aircon, en-suite shower and WC and a twin with an adjacent bathroom containing shower, bath and WC. Both bedrooms lead out through shuttered French windows into the private garden.
In the centre of the lower floor is a spacious living room, with TV, cable and DVD. For winter stays, a wood-burning stove ensures that the room is cosy and snug, while in the heat of the summer, shutters on all doors keep the room cool and refreshing.
Leading from the living room, the large, fully equipped kitchen houses a generous dining table and even a sofa to allow guests to relax in comfort as they chat to whoever is cooking!
Behind the kitchen is a play/TV room that contains a small library of books and a good selection of toys and board games. A sofa bed provides the possibility of adding further guests (upon agreement with owners).
A utility room containing washing machine and cleaning equipment leads off the far end of the kitchen.
Upstairs finds the 2nd master bedroom with aircon and another twin bedroom that nestles under the eaves of the sloping roof (ideal for children). These rooms share a large bathroom with bath/shower and WC. Each room leads, through shuttered French windows, onto a balcony that provides stunning views across the garden, vineyard and even (with estate agent liberty!) to the distant towers of the Cite.
Further details outdoors:
A stylish 9m private pool is situated in the south-facing enclosed garden, with a selection of loungers in which to soak up the sun. In compliance with French regulations, the pool is fitted with a safety cover that guests will be shown how to use upon arrival.
A patio with outdoor dining and a covered terrace with Asian daybed allow many choices for outdoor relaxation, while a permanent BBQ provides another option for cooking. The balcony can be reached through French windows from both upstairs bedrooms (master and twin) and offers lovely views across the vineyard and valley. There is parking space for up to 2 cars in front of the house.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

This area of the Languedoc enjoys one of the highest levels of sunshine in southern France, allowing visitors to take advantage of the many outdoor activities on offer - be that walking or cycling along the tow-path of the stunning Canal du Midi; cruising on the canal itself; hiking in the rugged Black Mountains; viewing the countryside courtesy of 4-legged horse power; swimming and boating on the Lac du Cavayere at Carcassonne Plage or taking a trip (just under an hour on a good day) to the Mediterranean.
Steeped in history (some of it very dark if you dig into the Cathar story) what starts out as a simple drive will take you through Medieval villages and past crumbling castles and ramparts, with plenty of excuses to stop off to explore and then sample delicious fresh local cuisine and wines.
The Carcassonne / Trebes area
Dominating the high-ground above "modern" Carcassonne, the Cite is a huge attraction for French and international tourists. It is well worth joining one of the guided trips or taking an audio tour to gain a real insight into its history and workings. During July and August, wonderful twice-daily tournaments take place, with professional mounted stuntmen conducting life-like jousts and armed combat bouts. For the young and the young at heart, be prepared to go more than once!
The Medieval village of Trebes (less than a kilometre away from the villa) is a popular stop-off for people travelling on or along the canal, offering a number of shops, banks (with cash points),opticians, hairdressers, estate-agents and good Italian and French restaurants - all within walking distance of the centre of the village.
Being on the main tourist route from Carcassonne to the region’s vineyards, Trebes is known as the "Gateway to the Minervois". Leaving Trebes, you soon arrive at local "domaines" where you can buy wine direct from the growers. Domaine de Catalauze (the vineyard that hosts our villa) generally contributes its grapes to the local “commune”, but will be bottling its own wines again in the near future.

A wonderful family holiday house which felt like a real home (but much more luxurious than our own!). The managers Anne and David couldn't have been warmer or more helpful and the welcome pack was very "welcome" after our drive to the house from Bezier. The house and pool were wonderfully comfortable and relaxing. Perfect settings for long lunches and evening barbecues. And there was plenty to do in the day - from the easy bike ride through vineyards to the perfect riverside fish restaurant in Trebes for lunch (bike-able by our 6 year old), to watching the jousting contest in nearby medieval Carcassonne. The main town of Carcassonne is a lovely provincial french town with fun boutiques and great restaurants. And there are the Cathar castles to hike to for the more energetic. I'm sure there was masses more that we could have done, but we were too busy relaxing! Too much good local food, and lovely French wine... |

This villa was the perfect away from it all holiday. Set in the middle of a vineyard with just one property next door it was far enough away to be peaceful (not isolated) and yet in 20 minutes you could walk to the local town for bread/drinks. Perfect combination! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and would love to go back ourselves. |
