"We had a wonderful time in France. Your apartment is lovely, attractive and comfortable. The whole area in and around Carcassonne is lovely as well, and the weather was really kind. I'm sure that we will be back to see the many areas which we missed. Thank you for your help in making things so easy for us after our arrival at the airport. Airport to your door in about 10 minutes, it couldn't have been easier. " Martyn, Lincolnshire, UK.

"We just wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had whilst we were there. We had a great time wandering around Carcassonne and it proved to be a great base for exploring and we did a few day trips. The flat was great, and it was wonderful to have somewhere with a back garden. It was a great holiday for us, and we have very happy memories of Carcassonne. It was lovely to come "home" to a flat, rather than a hotel room." Libby and Ian, New South Wales, Australia.

"We had a great time in Carcassone the apartment was lovely. It is in a perfect location and the great thing is it was spotless which is something that I love to see. The weather was good while we were over and if any friends intend to travel i will put them in touch with you." Frances, Co.Kerry, Ireland.

"We had a fantastic time, the apartment was perfect and we have left feedback in the book but I wanted to let you know how great it was. We will recommend it to friends and family and we will be back. We are even thinking of a boating holiday on the Canal du Midi!" Tracey, Birmingham, UK.

"The holiday was great, thanks! And so was the apartment. I really appreciate the effort you went to make it a nice place to stay. It was lovely being able to have meals out on the terrace, or just to sit out there and read. And the inside was very comfortable and clean. The apartment was also amazing quiet given how well-situated it is. I especially want to say thanks for the visitors' pack. It was a great introduction to the area and amenities, and it was very useful to read where the other visitors enjoyed visiting." Richard, Derbyshire, UK.

"This apartment worked out really well for us with a two year old child, we had all the facilities we needed and it was very spacious and just great to have an outside area to eat and relax in. The location of the apartment is also really good, a few minutes walk to Place Carnot with all it's cafes and the supermarket and the market. Also the carpark nearby was very handy for our hire car and very cheap. The owner of the apartment was a pleasure to deal with and having a local contact in Carcassonne was great." Catherine, Dublin, Ireland.

"...thank you both for helping us enjoy our trip. The apartment was a welcome refuge with every facility we could need. Location is excellent for reaching every part of the bastide and walkig down/up to the citadel. Claire made us very welcome and dealt easily with our queries. We managed to see a lot in the area, with Carcassonne Citadel and the Canal the highlights, and particularly enjoyed Castelnaudary and Beziers. We definitely want to visit the area again, and hope we may once again stay at your flat." Ranee and John, Buckinghamshire, UK.

"We had a lovely holiday in carcassonne and loved the town and your apartment. It was so convenient for trains and buses and the square for meals out and the market. The apartment was lovely and clean and the courtyard was lovely for a drink. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and your friend Claire very welcoming."Ann and Seamus, Cork, Ireland.

"We had a fantastic week exploring Carcassonne and Toulouse, cycling along the canal, enjoying the fabulous markets, food and wines of the area and generally enjoying every minute of it. We just wish we had stayed longer! The apartment was lovely. A hidden gem in the heart of the town, perfect to come back to after a day of exploring. Thanks again, we will definitely be recommending you to our friends and hope to revisit ourselves in the future." Alison and Steve, Yorkshire, UK.

In response to this review: I am very sorry to hear that my apartment was not ready for your arrival when you stayed last Autumn. We spoke at the time and as you know I live outside of France so have relied on a management company to clean and look after the apartment, meet guests, replace broken items etc. and act on my behalf in France. It appears that towards the end of the last holiday season the standards of this service began to slip, but as I did not realise this until you informed me that the cleaning and general upkeep was not to a standard that we would all expect. I was very disappointed and upset for you at the time and as you needed to stay elsewhere and I was happy to refund the entirety of your money quickly. We spoke a few times on the phone and I hope I did all I could to ensure your holiday was not ruined.

To Future Guests: Since this unfortunate event last year, I have found a new management company who I feel confident will be able to provide the services I need and keep the apartment in tip top condition. They come highly recommended and will ensure this issues does not occur again. Together we are making some improvements to the apartment which include laying new wooden flooring, repainting all the walls and updating the furniture and fittings. By March 2014 the apartment will be ready for new guests who will benefit from the refurnished interior and outdoors space which is unique for apartments in this area. My prices after the refit will not increase as I hope to keep the cost affordable for couples and small families/groups who wish to stay in my apartment.

I hope the other reviews show how committed I am to providing a great holiday experience for my guests and that future visitors will be very happy with what they find on arrival in this beautiful French town. If you have any questions, please do drop me an email anytime. Thank you, Ellen Ward.

"Excellent location, comfortable apartment"

Lovely stay in a beautiful city. Would recommend five days in Carcassonne. Great location close to the square in the "new city" and a lovely walk to the "old" City. Apartment very comfortable and clean with all things required for a holiday. Also great to have an outdoor area which was sunny and warm. Patisserrie around the corner superb and great eating in the square.

"Lovely location - terrible bed and on the flightpath!"

The apartment was easy to find and well located as Carcassone is so easy to navigate. Welcome pack much appreciated and flat could have been lovely with a few tweaks. We hated the bed and were disappointed in the quality of the bedding. I removed it from the bed and ironed it as this had not been done. Both covers provided for the bed were stained. The towels were grey instead of the white they were supposed to be. Although the info book invited us to water the plants in the pots occasionally, there were only weeds, lots of weeds. Being on the incoming flightpath wasn't a major prob as it is only a small airport but busy enough. There is no TV. We still enjoyed our hol but the pictures don't tell the true story. I feel sad to leave this review but this is the truth.

We welcome feedback from all guests and try hard to ensure the apartment, contents and overall experience is excellent for every visitor. The apartment is looked after by a local agent and all feedback is passed on for improvements where needed. We have made sure that new sheets and towels have been purchased and old ones removed. The garden has received a tidy up and unfortunately the TV service was discontinued when France went digital. A DVD player is available and there is a radio, board games, books and DVDs available to borrow.

We have received lots of great feedback from guests and hope that we can continue to provide a place to stay on holiday that is convenient, comfortable and well looked after.

"Convenient for all amenities"

A very comfortable and quiet apartment with a useful sitting out area.
The pack of provisions provided on our arrival was most welcome as we arrived in the late evening.
There is a small supermarket nearby which is open every day from which a good selection of supplies can be obtained.
We came by train and found a car to be unnecessary.

"Lovely place to visit and apt. ticked all the boxes for me"

My stay in 'The Heart of Carcassonne' apt. was very enjoyable. Loved the apt – location, character and so full of light. It was so homely, secure and peaceful at night. I had plenty of hot water 'on tap' everyday and all I needed in the apt eg shopping bag, books, dvds and store cupboard ingredients! The back courtyard offers a nice area to do some very relaxing lounging around and had sun shining from lunchtime so was perfect for a few hours sunbathing.! I must also mention the lovely gesture of the welcome food and drink that was waiting for me -wine/oj/bread & cheese,it was a lovey touch. Just a few mins walk to supermarket, the square for coffee or food and the old town is a nice 10 min walk.

"Very relaxing retreat in the Heart of Carcassonne"

This was the second time we booked the apartment as we find it so relaxing. It has an outdoor private terrace where we love to sit with a wee glass of wine before going out for dinner. I am sure that there are other apartments which have been modernised and have all amenities but somehow this apartment feels very authentic and is situated just around the corner from Place Carnot where you can eat at the various cafes; listen to music and drop into the markets. This year we took in a couple of concerts at the Castle and lazed around the riverbank during the day. It is a great place to recharge your batteries. Thanks to Ellen, the owner, and we look forward to returning.
