With its large reception rooms, airy bedrooms and vaulted ceilings, Les Barraux is the perfect setting for a relaxing family holiday near Carcassonne. The BBQ area, terrace, 12m pool and grounds are for the sole use of guests and there is plenty of car parking space. Situated near the medieval "cites" of Fanjeux and Mirepoix and the World Heritage Site of Carcassonne, Les Barraux is perfect for enjoying the history and gastronomic delights of this ancient Cathar region. To amuse those who like to explore, there is the Canal du Midi, the Pyrenees for walking, biking and adventure sports, as well as the family friendly entertainments and beaches of the Mediterranean.

Les Barraux has a fully equipped kitchen with modern amenities and french doors leading onto the terrace. Also downstairs is an extremely large lounge/dining room with settees, a formal dining table and a pool table. There is then a further separate lounge with settee, chairs, satellite TV (UK TV channels) and DVD player. Both receptions also have french doors leading on to the garden. Upstairs are five bedrooms, two with en suite facilities and a further separate bathroom, all with sweeping views of the lower Ariege Valley.

The extensive gardens are perfect for families, including the large private pool for the sole use of guests (heated from 1 June to 30 September). The BBQ and terrace are near to the pool and are perfect for relaxing during the day or in the evening.

In the Winter, Les Barraux is just a 50 minute drive from the family-friendly ski-resorts of the Haute Pyrenees.

The Carcassonne / Fanjeaux area

Fanjeaux (5km) was once the capital of the Occitan troubadours and has winding streets, restaurants, a bakery, butchers and a Saturday market. Mirepoix (8km) is another Cathar stronghold with a breathtaking medieval square full of restaurants and craft stalls. The World Heritage Medieval City of Carcassonne is just 25 minutes away and the Canal du Midi is on the way. Alternatively take a short car journey to the mountains for adventure activities, walking, visiting pre-historic caves and seeing more spectacular Cathar strongholds. There are lots of wine cellars to explore, and the Mediterranean is within easy reach with its fun parks and beaches.

“Stunning property with excellent facilities in a wonderful location.” Our party comprised a wide age range and all were bowled over by Les Barraux. The swimming pool was incredibly popular. The location ideal for visiting the many wonderful towns and sites of the region. Les Barraux exceeded all our expectations and proved the perfect property.
