The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

This beautiful region enjoys one of the best climates in France, with about 300 days of sunshine a year. It's location lends itself to many different types of holiday; if you are looking to relax on the beach, then you have those of the Mediterranean just a short drive away, for the more energetic there are the Black Mountains to the north, perfect for walking or biking, or for the more ambitious the Pyrenean Mountains are not far away, offering the possibility of skiing in the winter.
A trip to Andora for a bit of tax free shopping is a day well spent, you get to see spectacular scenery and save money! The region has a diverse history, and a turbulent past, to which the many castles and fortified towns bear testament. Much of it is linked to the Cathars, for whom this region was a final strong hold.
If you are a wine lover, then you are in for a treat, we have been amazed by the quality and price of those produced locally, most of it from small growers, who produce too little to export.
The Carcassonne / Villemoustaussou area
Villemoustaussou is the perfect base for exploring this area, as it is central to so many of its attractions.
The must do visit is obviously to La Cite, the wonderfully preserved medieval city, in Carcassonne itself, this is so close you can see it from the villa! No less spectacular, however, are the four ruined castles, perched high above Lastours. There are several caves nearby, which make a good day out, especially combined with a visit to one of the lovelly old towns, like Mirepoix, Saissac or Montreal.
For the more sports minded there is golf, horse riding, watersports and mountain biking, or for something more leisurely, a boat trip along the Canal du Midi, or a visit to the Park African.
There is a wonderful market in Carcassonne on Saturdays, where some of the local produce can be purchased, or you can even bike to one of the wine producers in and around Villemoustassou itself; the villa is actually built on what was a vineyard!
During July the Carcassonne Festival takes place, with everything from opera, classical music and balet to rock music. During the last weekend of June, Villemoustaussou has its' spectacular festival, with marching bands, and stalls offering a wide range of food and drink. Not to be missed.
Just to the south of Carcassonne you have Lac de la Cavayere, which is a man made lake offering 3 beaches, watersports, beach volleyball, pedelos, and mini golf. It is also the base for an adventure park for kids, where they can go on rope walks in the trees, and enjoy all sorts of (supervised!) mischeif!
There are 4 bikes at the Villa, on which you can explore the wonderful cycle routes around the area. The Canal du Midi is a short distance away, with some lovely views as you cycle along the tow path, either towards Carcassonne or Trebes, with the promise of excellent restaurants in either direction!

Villa Elise has been thoughtfully designed and kitted out to make it a wonderful place for a holiday near Carcassonne, situated on a small road on the outskirts of a village. It is perfect for two families to share, and if you want to raid the local markets and self-cater, the kitchen has everything you will need. The pool area is great; room for the adults to relax in the sun and the kids to refresh themselves in the water. Villemaustoussou has local essentials and it is easy to drive into Carcassonne, or to many other places of interest, from the villa. Response: We are really pleased our Villa met with your expectations. We knew we were going to be letting the Villa at the planning stage, and did take the likelyhood of 2 families sharing into consideration. |

The property is located on the outskirts of the village. It is clean, comfortable and spacious with views of the Pyrenees from your bedroom window. There is a large patio area and a lovely outdoor pool. There is a wide range of places to explore locally and my daughter and I particulalry enjoyed cycling (making use of the bicycles supplied by the villa's owners) and walking. We had a brilliant stay and would really recommentd this. Lots of excellent local wine to be sampled! Response: We looked at a lot of locations before choosing to build where we have, and think the proximity to the airport and local ameneties makes it an ideal spot. As for the local wine producers, that was just an added benefit! |
Guestbook for Maison Elise
A wonderful location, but we did not have enough time to see all we wanted. We will be back next year, with more of the family! Being tall we particularly liked the huge bed in our room!

We found the area marvelous for mountain biking, and the view of La Cite, from our bedroom window, when it was lit up at night, was an unexpected bonus. First class facilities, even proper wine glasses.

I just wanted to drop you a line to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Maison Elise; it was perfect for the children and heaven for us adults too! Once again, thank you, we are hoping to be able to arrange a return visit to Villemoustaussou in the future.
