Pomme Rose
About the home
The house is well equipped and offers a very comfortable base for enjoying the culture, cuisine, wines and varied scenery of the Aude. For the active, there is a wide range of water sports, cycling and walking opportunities from the gentle (Canal du Midi) to the very strenuous (narrow river gorges and mountain ascents). Alternatively guests can sit on the terrace and enjoy far reaching views across the Lauragais valley to the Montaigne Noire.
There are two large living / dining rooms, one of which opens out onto a patio and enjoys the spectacular views acrosss the Lauragais valley. The main house kitchen is very well equipped and there is also a small separate kitchenette in the attached ground-floor apartment. which has a double bedroom together with a bathroom making the premises suitable for people with limited mobility.
The apartment is integrated with the main house, but the closing of a single door provides privacy. Note: The apartment is not rented separately.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms - one with a double bed and two with twin beds. The double bedroom and one of the twin bedrooms have ensuite facilities and there is a dedicated bathroom for the third bedroom.
Our own website ( www.pinkapple.fr ) has detailed floor plans of both the ground floor and the bedrooms.
Outside there is a large level area next to the house with two patios, BBQ and lawn. The rest of the garden has been landscaped to give a series of planted terraces and a sloping meadow. The terracing makes the property unsuitable for young children but gives lots of secluded corners for guests. There is ample garden furniture (both dinng and lounging) for parties of up to eight people.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
The Aude includes a bit of everything french: the coast, the mountains, history, cuisine, vineyards and rich varied landscapes. It is this great variety within in such easy reach that attracted us to the area around Carcassonne, which also offers South of France weather without the overdevelopment and crowds of the Mediterranean coast though that is still in easy reach..
The Aude and Arriege valleys give easy access to the Pyrenees as well as being sporting and scenic attractions in their own right. The Canal du Midi and Carcassonne Citadel are World Heritage Sites offering contrasting experiences whilst Narbonne and Toulouse are bustling cities with great histories and culture. Warm summer evenings allow open air festivals and events throughout the region with the Carcassonne festival being particularly impressive.
The Cathar heritage is a popular attraction with many hill top ruins providing historic and scenic interest as well as lots of healthy exercise, whilst prehistoric sites, roman remains, abbeys and monastries all add to the historical and cultural wealth of the area.
The wines from the area have become well established and there is a wide range on offer reflecting the differences in climate and terrain within the region. Limoux is famous for its Blanquette and the Malepere and Cabardes regions also offer excellent wines. The area has lots to offer those wanting to further their wine education as well as those just want to drink it.
The Carcassonne / Fanjeaux area
Fanjeaux is a historic hill top village enjoying panoramic views of the Pyrenees, the Lauragais valley and the Montaigne Noire beyond. It is the birthplace of the Dominican movement of the Catholic church and still has the character of the old Cathar citadels. There are several well signed walks from the village including some of historical interest. It is a small, quiet village with basic shops, bar and restaurant providing an excellent base to enjoy the wider region.
The village is perched above the fertile Lauragais valley which offers an ever changing patchwork of colour with fields of sunflowers, wheat, vines and other crops. There are pretty villages dotted around the valley and the local market towns provide plenty of local fresh produce and general interest.
The area is blessed with numerous restaurants covering everything from pizzas to Michelin starred establishments and there are good vineyards within easy reach. More details on all of these can be found on our own website (see link below).
