Home description
Situated on a farm in beautiful countryside, and 2kms from the historic hill-top village of Fanjeaux, this well-appointed holiday property has a new swimming pool for the 2007 season. It's a delightful haven of peace here, but it also has the advantage of being a very good centre from which to explore the delights of Carcassonne, Mirepoix, Castelnaudary and Limoux.
Created from the ancient stone buildings adjacent to the farmhouse, you'll find all the modern home comforts here. There are fantastic views over the countryside and the Montagne Noir. As well as cooling off in the pool in summer, a wood-burning fire in the sitting room ensures your cosiness during out-of-season holidays.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.
Carcassonne / Fanjeaux area
The local hill-top village of Fanjeaux is just 2 kms away and will provide most of your day-to-day needs: there's a baker's, butcher's, bar/tabac, pharmacy and a petrol station. There's tennis and boules in the village and a children's playground. A little further away at Bram (9kms) you'll find everything else - supemarket, butcher's, dry-cleaner's etc. At Bram you can also hire bikes, take a boat trip along the Canal du Midi, or enjoy horse-riding.
Fanjeaux has a market every Thurs & Sat morning, Bram - Weds morning, Castelnaudary - Monday morning, Carcassonne (new town) - Tues, Thurs & Sat mornings, There are local restaurants in Fanjeaux and Bram, and many more in Carcassonne and Limoux.
This is a great centre for exploring this lovely region. Castelnaudary (17kms) is the 'capital' of the local famous dish 'cassoulet' and has a Cassoulet Festival in August. It's also the main training centre for the French Foreign Legion - much bigger tham Bram, it has a great canal basin, public swimming pools, cinema etc. Carcassonne is only a 15-20 minute drive away where you can visit the fairytale medieval city - Carcassonne has festivals in July and August. Mirepoix (17kms) is a most stunning medieval village. Limoux is where the sparkling wine 'Blanquette de Limoux' is produced and has a festival in Feb/March.
