Le Midi (house)

Home description

This large village house provides spacious living accommodation with a sunny roof terrace on the second floor and a private enclosed courtyard to the rear. From the courtyard, there are steps leading to the pool which is shared with the house next door.

The front door opens to a large open plan living area with wood burning stove. Facilities include satellite TV, DVD player and CD player. Off the living area is a fully equipped kitchen with ceramic hob, large oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, small appliances, and all the necessary crockery, cutlery and glassware to make this a home from home.Through to the hallway, there is a shower room & wc at the left of the stairwell.

On the first floor, there is a large double bedroom with an en suite shower room, a second double bedroom and a large bathroom, all with original wood floors. There is a washing machine, iron and ironing board next to the bathroom. A door leads out to the enclosed courtyard at this level.

The second floor has a large attic bedroom that sleeps 4. From here, a patio door leads on to the South facing roof terrace that enjoys views over the village rooftops to the alaric mountains in the distance

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

This typical Minervois village on the Canal du Midi is only 15 minutes from the Medieval City of Carcassonne. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Languedoc region.

You can tour the local countryside through the pretty french villages taking in the local markets and vineyards where you can samplethe wines and purchase wine at local prices.
Visit the Cathar castles around Carcassonne and explore the mystery of Rennes le Chateau and the Knights Templar.

The Languedoc area enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year. The Mediterranean beaches of Narbonne & Leucate are just 40 minutes away. Closer to home, 10 minutes there is a lakeside beach for swimming.

Take advantage of the location and visit the nearby cities of Toulouse, Montpelier or Barcelona - all accessible by train or motorway. A drive to the beautiful Costa Brava in Northern Spain is only 2 hours away.

Carcassonne / Marseillette area

The Medieval city of Carcassonne is a major attraction in the South of France and a must-see for anyone visiting the region. On bastille day there is a massive fireworks display at the old Cite. During the summer months, there are many outdoor events scheduled in Carcassonne ranging from Opera to rock concerts. Some of these events are free of charge, however, it may be necessary to check if tickets are required for larger events.

The main City of Carcassonne has many shops, bars and restaurants around and off the main square - Place Carnot. There is a large market here on Saturday where you can experience real french life after which you can enjoy lunch around the square.

Marseillette is a typical french wine producing village on the Canal du Midi. The neighbouring town of Trebes (5 mins away) is a main port of call for the Canal du Midi, where you can hire boats or just take a short trip on the Canal.

The nearby lakes ( Jouarre & Cavayere) offer swimming and watersports. Walking and cycling are popular pastimes. The more energetic can enjoy hiking in the Montagne Noir. For a relaxing stroll, the Canal du Midi is the perfect place. The Golf Club in Carcassonne is open to visitors and clubs can be hired. The bistro restaurant in the Golf Club have a lovely lunch menu very reasonably priced.

How to get there

By Air
Most International airlines serve the airport at Toulouse, (1 hour from Marseillette)
Ryanair has budget flights from - Dublin to Carcassonne,( 15 minutes from Marseillette)
- Dublin to Girona, (2 hours from Marseillette)
- London to Carcassonne
- London to Montpelier & Perpignan, both 1 1/2 hour from Marseillette.
Marseillette is easily reached by the motorway network. Travel timefrom the channel ports takes approximately 9 hours.
Motorail runs from ferryports to Toulouse and Narbonne.
Car hire is available at airports from Hertz, Europcar, Avis.

The south facing roof terrace has lovely views of the Alaric mountains in the distance. The enclosed courtyard has a barbecue. Both outside spaces have tables, chairs and sunloungers forrelaxing in the sun.

Conditions

In the interests of safety, there is no smoking in the house. Ashtrays are provided both on the terrace and in the courtyard for smoking.
Bookings can be secured with a 30% deposit, the balance being due 6 weeks prior to the start of your holiday at which time a refundable breakages deposit of € 250 will be required.
Changeover day is Sunday. Departures by 10 am - Arrivals at 4 pm.
In high season ( July and August), bookings are a minimum of 2 weeks otherwise a supplement will apply.
