Domaine du Renne boasts two holiday cottages / Gites in a peaceful setting with unspoilt southerly views across endless vineyards. The property set on the side of a gentle hill surrounded by its own woodland that offers remarkable walking . There is a two bedroom and a one bedroom Gite (see the associated adverts for availability) Both are beside the 12x6M saltwater pool
The Domaine is totally private at the end of a chemin, with a farm as one neighbour and a small wine producer the other! It is therefore a place to relax and soak up the sun beside the pool!
The countryside of the Aude is one of the most diverse in France. A 15 minute drive can take one into the gently rolling wheat fields of the Lauragais, vineyards of the Limouxin, or wild mountains and gorges of the Corbieres, always with the Pyrenees as a backdrop.
We are surrounded by castles and ancient fortified towns, the greatest of which is Carcassonne, less than 30 minutes away. The mediaeval town of Mirepoix with its Monday market in the arcaded square is also nearby.
Cycling, canoeing and walking are favourite pastimes and lakes offer the chance for leisurely swims and picnics. We provide a set of self-guided walks in each gite. Scenic Mediterranean fishing villages and fine beaches are just over an hour away.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
During July Carcassonne hosts "Le Festival de la Cité" - series of music and dance with world class rock and classical musicians and stars of opera and ballet.
Jousts are held in the lists between Carcassonne's inner and outer walls during July and August.
During the 13 weeks up to Easter each year Limoux holds the longest running carnival in Europe. Three times a day, every Saturday and Sunday there is a procession with fancy dress, music, dancing and lots of confetti throwing!
‘La Cité' de Carcassonne?A 12th Century, walled town, restored to its former glory in the 19th Century and is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Full of shops, cafés, and bars, it is the second most visited site in France after Paris. As you might expect, it can be a bit crowded but well worth the visit for some spectacular photographs. Plan to get there for 8.30 for a few hours peace before the coaches arrive. The cathedral of St Nazaire has some of the finest medieval stained glass in the country and usually free organ recitals on a Sunday at 17.00 hrs. The newer part of Carcassonne, La bastide de St Louis (17th Century) has lots of shops, bookshops and a wide range of good, mediocre and poor restaurants. The Saturday morning market is held in the main square.?Approx. 30 mins. drive

"This was all about making sure you relaxed from the minute you arrived until you left !"
My wife, my 17 year old daughter and I had an absolutely fantastic time at Domaine du Renne in June 2013 - we wanted a quiet and peaceful week but with plenty to see and do around us and we got just what we asked for. The overriding feature here was that the owner could not have been more warm and helpful before our arrival and during our holiday and went out of his way to ensure that we were totally relaxed about our holiday - even before we had arrived ! His warmth and very helpful nature shone through and as the saying goes the gite did what it says on the tin and more ! The owner provided very helpful instructions and I should add that the photos of the place do not do the gite and surrounding area any justice - it was far better than you see in the photos - most unusual in this day and age. The gite is of a very high standard and very good value for money - it seems that there is more to be done (although it doesn't need it) so I would love to see it in say a year's time. Only negative is that we had to leave ! A very high recommendation from myself and my family hence why I have had no hesitation in giving a top class recommendation and suggest that any reader of this likewise has absolutely no hesitation in making a booking !
I promise that the little DIY jobs will be complete for next season! Photos? ok, I will get someone in with a proper camera for next year. Here I was thinking the iphone could do everything!

We took the two gites and there was plenty of room for the four of us, including a 12 and a 15 year old. The setting is idyllic, overlooking vineyards. We were the first guests since a major refurbishment and the quality is excellent, very well equipped and with a great pool, albeit a bit on the cool side in mid May. Hal was the perfect host. There is plenty to do in the vicinity with canoeing, wine tasting, and historical sites galore. We will almost certainly be back!

"Le Chene - A piece of tranquillity with stunning views, countryside and diverse activities for all the family"
Le Chene is set in spectacular countryside of the Aude with some stunning views, the location is perfect for all interests, if you like walking, visiting historical places, local markets and towns, or swimming in the Mediterranean, walking in the Pyrenees or even relaxing by the pool surrounded in peaceful countryside and enjoying stunning views then Le Chene is for you. We were very impressed with the number of diverse activities that are on offer and can all participate in, there is something for everyone and hence I would not hesitate to thoroughly recommend this holiday for all the family. The accommodation at Le Chene was superb and off a high quality, which was beautifully laid out, had all the amenities including satellite TV, BBQ, Internet access to name a few, and located at the end of a private lane with one farm and a Vineyard as neighbours. The peace and tranquility of the area was superb and was finished off with stunning views of the Pyrenees. The hospitality of the owner and his wife were second to none and everyone felt very welcome and they could not do enough to make our stay most welcome and rememberable. The added bonus was the private swimming pool and sun loungers that you have access to if you wish to take life at a more relaxing pace. I would thoroughly recommend Le Chene to anyone looking for a great relaxing holiday with so much to do and places to visit you are spoilt for choice. We will certainly be returning in the very near future and felt completely relaxed after our stay at Le Chene.

Stayed for 4 days only, which was very enjoyable indeed. Very picturesque and tranquil location with great views of vineyards and countryside. If you want a place just to 'chill' out and also as a base to visit the sights, this is ideal. The gite was well-equipped and very comfortable. Modern BBQ set, flat screen TV and swimming pool was very welcome. The owner was very very hospitable and welcoming. We would love to come back for a longer stay.

"Great location, perfect host and ideal accomodation"
Our stay at Le Chene was a delight from beginning to end. We arrived quite late in the evening to find that Hal, the owner, had been called away. However, he had left a charming note together with all the ingredients necessary to make ourselves a light supper for us and our two kids. A bottle of local wine, fresh bread and tomatoes and a round of camembert helped round off our arrival. We met Hal properly the next day and his two dogs Milo and Mathilda (more later...). He was the perfect host, and for a novice gite owner made a great effort to think of some of the most helpful things such as providing olive oil and basic seasonings in the kitchen, plenty of cleaning materials and toilet rolls. The gite was very clean and comfortable with all necessary equipment, and though by a long way not the most outdated place we have ever stayed in, we know Hal has some ambitious plans to modernise them for the 21st century which will make them top grade. The swimming pool was a delight too. The dogs! Milo and Mathilda are two beautiful English Bull Terriers. Milo is Mathilda's pup. If you don't know this breed then the best advice I can give is be forceful with them and don't shy away. They are very sociable dogs, love people, and enjoy meeting new frineds. But Milo in particular is very boisterous and especially strong though he has a wonderful, playful nature (as do English Bulls in general). Be firm with him, push him away if you don't want him sitting on your feet, and enjoy his company on the walks in the woods around Le Chene. I swear you'll be a convert by the time the holiday is over - all my family were comepletely besoted with him by the time we were leaving. The area around the gite is terrific for walks in the woods and the vineyards (accompanied by the dogs) while it is within 10 mins drive of wonderful Limeaux - home of Blanquette de Limoux, a wonderful sparkling wine to rival Champagne.
