The Languedoc-Roussillon region

This typical Minervois village on the Canal du Midi is only 15 minutes from the Medieval City of Carcassonne. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Languedoc region.

You can tour the local countryside through the pretty french villages taking in the local markets and vineyards where you can sample the wines and purchase wine at local prices.

Visit the Cathar Castles around Carcassonne and explore the mystery of Rennes le Chateau and the Knights Templar.

The Languedoc area enjoys 300 daysof sunshine a year. The Mediterranean beaches of Narbonne & Leucate are just 40 minutes away. Closer to home, 10 minutes away there is a lakeside beach ( Lac Cavayere) for swimming and watersports..

Take advantage of the location and visit the nearby cities of Toulouse, Montpelier or Barcelona - all accessible by train or motorway.

A drive to the beautiful Costa Brava in Northern Spain is only 2 hours away.

Carcassonne

The Medieval city of Carcassonne is a major attraction in the South of France and a must-see for anyone visiting the region. On Bastille day there is a massive fireworks display at the old Cite. During the summer months, there are many outdoor events scheduled in Carcassonne ranging from Opera to rock concerts. Some of these events are free of charge, however, it may be necessary to check if tickets are required for larger events

The main city of Carcassonne has many shops, bars and restaurants around and off the main square- Place Carnot. There is a large market here on Saturday where you can experience real french life after which you can enjoy lunch around the square.

Marseillette is a typical french wine producing village on the Canal du Midi . The neighbouring town of Trebes ( 5 mins away) is a main port of call for the Canal du Midi, where you can hire boats or just take a short trip on the Canal.

The nearby lakes ( Jouarre & Cavayere) offer swimming and watersports. Walking and cycling are popular pastimes. The more energetic can enjoy hiking in the Montagne Noir. For a relaxing stroll, the Canal du Midi is the perfect place. The Golf club in Carcassonne is open to visitors and clubs can be hired. The bistro restaurant in the Golf club have a lovely lunch menu very reasonably priced.

"Good - in quiet village right on the Canel du Midi"

The owner was very helpful and easy to deal with.
The property was comfortable; having the feel of a rental property rather than someone's home which is rented out, but this isn't a criticism, more of a comment. The rooms were comfortable with plenty of space. Good parking and a patio which caught the sun for most of the day. The furniture in the living room could do with a bit of a revamp.
We liked the village which had the feel of a local working French village where most houses were lived in giving the place an active feel. There was a Boulangerie and a Bar / Restaurant (La Terrasse) where you could have a glass of wine on the terrace and where locals, people from the canal, and cyclists would stop for a drink. We eat in here as well and would recommend it (food cooked by the owner). There was another Hotel / Restaurant on the edge of the village, but we didn't try it. If we needed shopping the larger town of Trebes was just down the road (car drive).
The village is right on the Canel du Midi, so in a fabulous location and the great walks that allowed. We went on a canel trip from Homps. Needless to say the whole surrounding area is fantastic with Carcassonne and the other Cather sites.
The accommodation had a pool, which we didn't use (we tend not to anyway and the weather wasn't scorching!). The only downside could be if the neighbours were a bit noisy and used the pool a lot, because it overlooked the patio, and under these circumstances you may feel it's not very private - although again we had no neighbours that used the pool during our stay, so no problem there, and this is only supposition.
Yes, we would recommend it.
You can see the village and the property on Google street view

"A charming 'rustic' village house in a quiet location."

We have had a lovely stay in L'atelier. The house had all the equipment you need including a beach umbrella and beach towels which were especially useful. Our two children really enjoyed using the pool and were constantly in and out as the weather was so hot. The fans in the rooms were essential. A perfect location for exploring the local area - we love the Canal Du Midi. The highlight of our stay was watching the fireworks in Carcassone on Bastille Day. Thanks to Eileen the owner for providing us with lots of interesting information about things to do during our stay and for the bottle of wine in the fridge when we arrived!

"Great Village location with pool"

We stayed a week in a very hot August and we loved the pool on-site. The house was spacious, clean and fans were provided to help keep cool. Beds also made up for our arrival. Kitchen area well set up and eating outside using BBQ was great. Dishwasher and washing machine also available, along with DVD player and TV that we could get English TV on.The bottle of wine for us on arrival was most welcomed! The local bakery was great and a short walk to the Canal du Midi where watching the boats go by was very pleasant. Plenty to do locally, Carcassonne being only 15 mins away and the village is in the midst of vineyards. Nice and peaceful but you need a car. Owner very helpful with pre-travel information on the area, especially as we arrived on Sunday afternoon when all shops shut!. We also rented bikes as information pack said one could hire these in nearby Trebes and we also visited the nearby Lac featured on the website. A great time was had by us.

"A lovely home, in a quiet village, but just a short drive to everything you need."

We had a great time here. The home is clean and comfortable; the pool is perfect for keeping cool; the boulangerie stock the essentials as well as bagettes and croisants; and Carcassonne and some lovely lakeside beaches are about 15-20 minutes in the car. We had a lovely time and would recommend this property as a great place to stay.
