About the home

Located in a village nestling between the River Aude and the Canal du Midi , this bright village house provides spacious living accommodation for 5 people. The house is a short stroll from the Boulangerie which also stocks general provisions. The Terrasse bar in the village is open for lunch and there is a charming restaurant at the edge of the village bordering on the Canal du Midi.

On the ground floor is an open plan living area with french doors leading to a private patio area with secure parking. The living area includes a fully equipped kitchen with all the necessary items to make this a home from home. There is a double sofa bed in the living area to provide sleeping accommodation for a sixth person. Patio doors lead open out to a patio area with dining facilities and barbecue.

On the first floor, there is a double bedroom a twin bedroom, a single bedroom and a large shower room.

The house is ideally situated in a typical minervois village only 20 minutes away from the World Heritage City of Carcassonne. Enjoy cycling along the Canal, relaxing lunches in one of the many restaurants in the area, visiting places of historical interest like Minerve and enjoy swimming and watersports at Lac Cavayere, Carcassonne plage.

We have a french person who looks after the changeovers and pool cleaning. She speaks English and is available to contact if you have any queries when you are there.
Pool closed October-April.

Conditions

In the interests of health and safety, there is no smoking in the house. Smoking is allowed outside on the patio.

Bookings can be secured with a non refundable 30% deposit, the balance being due 6 weeks prior to the start of your holiday at which time a refundable breakages deposit of € 250 will be required.
Changeover day is normally Sunday. However, we do offer a degree of flexibiltiy to accommodate cheap flights midweek if necessary.
Departures by 10am- Arrivals at 4 pm.
In high season (July and August), bookings are a minimum of 2 weeks otherwise a supplement will apply.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

This typical Minervois village on the Canal du Midi is only 15 minutes from the Medieval City of Carcassonne. It is an ideal place from which to explore the Languedoc region.

You can tour the local countryside through the pretty french villages taking in the local markets and vineyards where you can sample the wines and purchase wine at local prices.
Visit the Cathar Castles around Carcassonne and explore the mystery of Rennes le Chateau and the Knights Templar.

The Languedoc area enjoys 300 daysof sunshine a year. The Mediterranean beaches of Narbonne & Leucate are just 40 minutes away. Closer to home, 10 minutes away there is a lakeside beach ( Lac Cavayere) for swimming and watersports..

Take advantage of the location and visit the nearby cities of Toulouse, Montpelier or Barcelona - all accessible by train or motorway.
A drive to the beautiful Costa Brava in Northern Spain is only 2 hours away.

The Carcassonne / Marseillette area

The Medieval city of Carcassonne is a major attraction in the South of France and a must-see for anyone visiting the region. On Bastille day there is a massive fireworks display at the old Cite. During the summer months, there are many outdoor events scheduled in Carcassonne ranging from Opera to rock concerts.Some of these events are free of charge, however, it may be necessary to check if tickets are required for larger events

The main city of Carcassonne has many shops, bars and restaurants around and off the main square- Place Carnot. There is a large market here on Saturday where you can experience real french life after which you can enjoy lunch around the square.

Marseillette is a typical french wine producing village on the Canal du Midi . The neighbouring town of Trebes ( 5 mins away) is a main port of call for the Canal du Midi, where you can hire boats or just take a short trip on the Canal.

The nearby lakes ( Jouarre & Cavayere) offer swimming and watersports. Walking and cycling are popular pastimes. The more energetic can enjoy hiking in the Montagne Noir. For a relaxing stroll, the Canal du Midi is the perfect place. The Golf club in Carcassonne is open to visitors and clubs can be hired.The bistro restaurant in the Golf club have a lovely lunch menu very reasonably priced.

Most International airlines serve the airport at Toulouse, 1 hour from Marseillette
Ryanair has budget flights from -Dublin to Carcassonne, 15 minutes from Marseillette.
-London to Carcassonne.
-London to Montpelier & Perpignan, both 1 1/2 hour from Marseillette.
- Dublin to Girona, 2 hours from Marseillette.
Marseillette is easily reached by the motorway network.Travel time from the channel ports takes approximately 9 hours.
Motorail runs from ferryports to Toulouse and Narbonne.
Car hire is available at airports from Hertz, Europcar, Avis.

We had an absolutely wonderful time in Marseillette, thank you so much for the use of your lovely house. We found the house easily and were impressed with how clean and new everything was. The recommended places and restaurants to visit were extremely helpful and we loved our canal trip in Trebes, the beach at Narbonne, Toulouse, and just driving around, i could go on and on. Having the pool was brilliant especially with how hot it was last week, my 2 year old cried at having to leave it ( she can now swim with armbands without being held all the time which was progess!).
