Home description
A traditional, rustic and simple terraced village house with no dishwasher or tumbledryer. Eco friendly in many respects, it has a woodburner, recycling and composting facilities and tiled and wooden floors. A kitchen/living area leads to a small, shower/utility room, a hallway, a WC and second living room, which can be used as an extra bedroom. Upstairs there are two large double bedrooms and a bathroom with bath/shower over and WC. In the attic a studio/room opens through French doors to a south facing roof terrace with magnificent views and ample drying area.
Across an alley and through a barn is a big field/garden with fantastic views.. It is mostly down to flower meadow , grassland and trees. You can sit for hours on the terrace or in the garden, watching the birds and skies. On clear nights the stars [and bats] are amazing.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
500m.above sea level, the cottage is in the foothills of the Pyrenees , yet only 1hr. from the Mediterranean. It lies just above a beautiful plateau formed by an ancient lake bed. Steeped in Cathar history, the area is famous for its castles and lakes. If you liked the books: Labyrinth, The De Vinci Code or the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, this is the region to explore. Wildlife abounds; rare birds like Hen Harrier, Red& Black Kite, Vultures and Eagles are here. Summers can be hot , with occasional dramatic thunderstormns. Rainy summers have been known!Spring displays a profusion of wildflowers; Autumn is still warm and colourful and is one of the best seasons. Winters are usually cold but I have been out in my shirt sleeves in January.! Blizzards can occur and local ski stations are near, as is Andorra, approx. 2 hrs. away.
Carcassonne / Puivert area
The village of Puivert has its own pretty, swimming lake with beach, sports area and cafe. There is a bar, restaurant, post office, mini market, bakery, and museum, all a 10.min. walk from the cottage. The Chateau is open all year round .
In the immediate area there are many activities offered, including fishing, swimming, watersports, gliding, horse riding, cycling and walking. Bikes are for hire in the village
The famous city of Carcassonne is a 45 min. drive away; the castle of Montsegur is very near and there are lively street markets held regularly in nearbye towns. The French are rightly proud of their local products and celebrate them with frequent fairs and markets
Ski areas such as Camurac, Ax Les Thermes and Mont D`Olmes -are all within an hour`s drive and Andorra is about 2 .5 hrs. away, as is northern Spain
Flights from UK on airlines such as: Ryanair.com, Flybe.com, Easyjet.com and others. Train stations @ Carcassonne, Toulouse, Perpignan, Foix [45mins] and Limoux [30mins] & Quillan [15mins].
