The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
This is a beautiful region of France where vineyards and sunflowers abound.
Wine tasting is everywhere including in the village itself.
Thr Pyrenees are visible from many places locally and easily reached.
The location is wonderful too for visiting the many Cathar castles and of course the fairytale ancient cité of old Carcassonne is a must for young and old alike.
The "rose" city of Toulouse makes a great day out and of course the Mediterranean beaches are little over an hour away and only 2 hours to the borders with Spain.
The Carcassonne / Verzeille area
The fortified town of Carcassonne - a restored medieval citadel is rich in culture. L'horte is also very close to Mirepoix - a small town with a very wide square with some ancient timber framed houses. It is well worth a visit for the weekly market which takes place ona Monday. St. Hilarire ten minutes down the road has a beautiful Abbey well worth a visit. Limoux is a carnival town always bustling with activity. During the summer months there is always plenty of activity. Great place to have a coffee. If you are a wine lover you will be in seventh heaven you are surrounded by them.

I stayed here with friends and we had a truly wonderful time. The house was very spacious with everything we needed for a relaxing break. The gardens and pool area are beautiful and we agreed we should return in the summer months to take maximum advantage of this. A car is essential but you don't have to travel far for excellent restaurants in the area. Heartily recommended! |

Quite disappointed with the overall property. On advert says BBQ at premises on arrival with 6 people there were two old rusty and dirty bbqs that were not big enough for 6. We had to soend 80 euros to buy a new one which was suitable. Also the overall cleanliness of the property was below standard. The shower curtain was very mouldy and smelly the bath was dirty as was the cooker I had to spend my first day cleaning. For the price we paid I thought the standard would be better Response: I am so sorry to hear of your disappointment with the property I wish this had been bought to my attention during your stay to enable me to address your issues. There is an almost new gas bbq in the utility room available for guests to use so no need to buy your own ? Had the cleaning problems been bought to my attention I could certainly have asked the cleaners to return and rectify them immediately. |

I have stayed in L'horte on thee occasoins - all short breaks - two in October with girlfriends and one with family in May. The description of three bedrooms is a bit deceptive as the house is huge and has beds to sleep 9 comfortably. We stayed as a family of 7 adults and 1 child (aged 10) last May for four nights. There is so much to see and do in the surrounding areas but a car is essential. The owner provides lists of places and restaurants to see and visit and I can honeslty say to stay in this region for the food alone is worth it - i have never eaten such amazing food in my life! The house is old world, surrounded by a huge garden, lovely swimming pool with a river at the end, really idyllic. Carcasonne can be accessed by car in 15 minutes and there are other quaint villages in the surrounding areas. A bakery is just across the road and if you looking for a beer or glass of wine you can find a small bar about a mile up the road. Wonderful vineyards all around the place - great fun to visit, sample and purchase to bring home to Lahorte where in summer you can sit out beside the pool and bar-b-que or in winter, light the fire in the most amazing sitting room and sip your wine with local cheeses and just chill. This house is ideal for families, groups of friends or anybody looking for a base to travel the Languedoc Region or simply as a base to chill and spend the days lazing around the pool or garden reading books or paying games! Woudl I go back - most definitely! |
