About the home

This lovely old village house in Cuxac Cabardes is a rural retreat with private courtyard where you can relax in either summer or winter. There is a log fire for winter as well as central heating. For those feeling energetic there are walks, lakes, golf, riding, swimming, tennis, boule all within easy reach of the property.

The house is over 300 years old and beautifully renovated to a high standard. It has original features with exposed beams and is set on three floors with the top floor being one large room and having lovely views over the roof tops to the woods beyond. On the ground floor there is a wood burner in addition to the central heating, this creates a lovely cosy atmosphere ideal also for winter breaks with the ski slopes of the French Pyrénées being only an hour away.

The lovely large private secluded courtyard is ideal for your French dining experience with freshly baked croissants from the local patisserie also the cheese and wine in this area are lovely. The local cafe, hotel and restaurant are all within easy walking distance of the property

Cuxac Cabardes is a place to relax, a beautiful historical village but also within easy reach of Carcassone and the Mer Mediterrannée is only a 40 minute drive away with its beautiful beaches.

Lovely ground floor living area which leads through to the spacious secluded private courtyard beyond. There is also a lovely sunny sitting room on the top floor of the house where there are views to the woods beyond also unlimited Wi-fi connection is available from here. The single bed is situated on the top floor.

The changeover day is normally Saturday but this is flexible as are extended stays

House is available from 4pm on day of arrival and we request that guests vacate the property by 10am on the day of departure

The house is thoroughly cleaned between lets but we request that all guests leave the house clean and tidy before their departure so that we can maintain a high standard. Cleaning is included in the cost of the rental but if the property is left in a poor state and extra cleaning is required there will be an additional charge.

5% discount for just two people staying

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

As well as being a region of outstanding natural beauty this is a wine growing region of France that is also steeped in history. Visiting the many local vineyards in the area is a great attraction.

There are two World Heritage Sites and of course the old mediaeval city of Carcassonne which rises up above the Canal du Midi is a fascinating place to visit. Walks beside the canal are lovely and also this is a wonderful area for cyclists.

The Carcassonne / Cuxac Cabardes area

This is the historical Cathar region of France which also has a great deal to offer in the way of horse riding, golf, beautiful walks and picnics either by the Canal du Midi or in the Montagne Noire region where there are lakes where you can swim or fish. The village of Collioure is very popular and, being a wonderful area for painting, is a favourite place for artists.

There are many village fêtes in the area throughout the summer as well as music festivals. Cuxac Cabardes has its own fête and music festival in August which lasts for three or four days and includes a wonderful firework display, this is popular with those who are looking for more than relaxation whilst others are pleased when peace returns to the village. All in all the area has a great deal to offer should you wish to explore or just relax at home.

If you wish to eat out at a local restaurant 'La Diligence' is only a 10 minute walk from the house and the food is excellent.

“Cosy Cottage” A lovely week spent at the village house, excellent location quiet yet close enough to Carcassonne. Mornings out exploring, followed by walks around the village, then red wine by the log burner; splendid. Response: Another happy guest, I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay!

“Relaxation in a small Aude village” Good location in a small friendly village which has most of what you would want on hand. 20 mins easy drive from Carcasonne. Prepare yourself well for the quirks of french roads/ road signs and you are well on your way to a good holiday. Explore locally and you will be pleasantly surprised. “A lovely house with the best of both worlds - close to the city but in a pretty rural village” The Village House was a beautifully restored house, full of character in a charming village setting, with easy access to Carcassonne and the nearby national park. “Delightful house in charming, peaceful and friendly village” From the moment we arrived we felt at home, in fact our first day was spent just pottering around the village, sitting on sunny benches, relaxing. Our young son enjoyed the play park and Grandad enjoyed sketching the views. The house provided comfortable and easy living in flexible accommodation. Tastefully decorated, quality linen, comfy beds - everything you need for a 'get away from it all' holiday. The house is in a great location with plenty to do in the local area. We explored the historic towns, villages and sights; wooded walks, scenic lakes, mountains and great views, particularly on the road over to Mazamet. The local shop is small but surprisingly well stocked. Grandad visited the boulangerie every morning and returned with warm freshly baked croissants for breakfast along with our daily baguette. A lovely house in a superb location! And we would like to go back please... Response: Guests are always welcome to return ... Grandad too! I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay.

“Highly recommended Accommodation” My wife and I would not hesitate to rate The Village House "highly recommended", having had a very comfortable and relaxing holiday there in September. We found it an excellent base for exploring this beautiful area of France from as far south as the Spanish border up to Albi and Pezenas, including most places in between! Apart from the fact it is spotlessly clean and is furnished and equipped to a high standard, we particularly looked forward to returning each evening for our barbecued supper in the delightful private courtyard where we could relax till late in candle light with a glass of local wine, and in peaceful silence, interrupted only by the sound of the river and hooting owls in the trees across the way. It was good to be living cheek by jowl with friendly local people and to have the facilities of the village shops and two restaurants, especially the morning espresso on the way back from the boulangerie! We would also echo previous reviews that, Liz, the owner could not have been more approachable and helpful. “Fantastic Place To Stay” My family and I have returned from a wonderful stay at the Village House in Cuxac Carbardes. The village is incredibly friendly, given that I have particularly poor French, we were all met with politeness and smiles which was re-assuring. The property owner was super friendly & approachable; she answered my many questions in a speedy manner. The house is in a super spot for touring and was a quiet relaxing place to unwind at the end of a busy day out. Great place to stay, recommended to all. Response: Thank you for another lovely Review. “Like stepping back in time to a magical secret world.” The village house nestles into the foot of the mountains - the streets are narrow and winding, the people are friendly and speak not a word of English - it was so refreshing. We had a lovely time - we needed a car to get about and see all the sights, and Carcassonne itself was breathtaking. At the end of day we returned to the Village house and relaxed with the log burner. It was very romantic. There was plenty of room for us - a family of 4. We would definately stay there again.
