Charming village house with typical Mediterranean garden home to olive trees, fig bushes and scented herbs located in the lovely Cathar village of Montreal, just 15 minutes from the historical town of Carcassonne. The house comfortably sleeps 6 people with 3 large rooms. It offers accommodation in one of the most popular and sunny regions of France. Montreal is a vibrant village, conveniently located just 15 minutes from Carcassonne Airport, where RyanAir flies into from various European destinations. It is located in the "Malepere" region, known as the Tuscany of South-West France, with its rolling hills, vineyards and sunflowers that bloom in late summer. Free WIFI available in the house for all rental guests.

The lounge is large and airy, with original wooden beams and a very efficient wood burning stove (for the winter months) - with 1 large 3 seater-sofa and 2 armchairs. There is also a television/DVD, piano, and plenty of books to read. The lounge leads into a fully fitted modernised kitchen with dishwasher, oven, vitroceramic surface, American fridge and washing machine, plenty of crockery, dishes and kitchen utensils, as well as small table for quick snacks, coffee time and so on. The separate dining room with original mosaic tiles has French doors opening out onto the terrace and garden, with dining table, chairs and dresser containing all dishes, glasses and so on. There is also a downstairs toilet and sink.

Upstairs, two spacious twin bedrooms with single beds, clothes cupboards and drawers in each room, as well as bed side tables with lamps. On the top floor, is the spacious and attractive master bedroom with superb views of the Pyrenees, with double bed, bedside table drawers and side lamps, as well as the modernised bathroom - with double sinks, toilet and corner/circular bath with shower head, with built in seat appealing to children.

Outside: A good sized typical mediterranean garden SE facing, home to 2 olive trees, fig bushes, scented herbs, as well as large tiled terrace and wooden garden shed. The edges of the garden are fenced off, so that if you have little children, they cannot escape! We also supply a children's paddling pool if suitable. On the terrace, we provide a highly efficient gas-run barbeque for all your cooking needs.

The house has been fully renovated, but all old features have been retained, giving it a very charming and rustic feel to it, keeping cool in the summers with tiling and wooden parquet floors throughout, and warm in the winters with our Norwegian wood burner! Parking is on-street, directly outside the house, or just 20 metres up the road, there is a small parking area for the surrounding houses.

Located in a village with all amenities, means you can stroll to the shops, to the bar and the restaurant, without having to drive. We also have pharmacy, doctors, dentist, bank with cashpoint all available on foot too, and Montreal's vineyards boast some of the best Chardonnay in the South-West France (having been awarded gold medal), at the Domaine Le Fort. And just 2 minutes walk from our house, we have the children's playground, tennis courts and open air swimming pool (July & August), which also has a baby/toddler pool.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

If you're looking to discover the Languedoc Roussillon region of southern France with its magic combination of Mediterranean climate and French heritage, of blue seas and stunning countryside, then Carcassonne makes for a great base - with regular flights coming in from London Stansted, Dublin, Shannon, Liverpool, East Midlands and Brussels airports.

Within 15 minutes from our house, you can explore the medieval Cité and the Canal du Midi in Carcassonne. At the heart of Carcassonne along the Aude River lies its famous fortified medieval town - called the Cité - restored to its full glory in the 19th century, and awarded UNESCO world heritage status in 1997. Beyond the Cité, in the lower part of Carcassonne, there is the another Carcassonne must-see - the Canal du Midi which winds its way round the northern sector of the town on its way through the Aude towards the Mediterranean.

Within an hour, here are a few recommendations of things to do - go wine tasting in the Minervois and Corbières, or relax on miles of sandy beaches at Narbonne or Gruissan plage, or visit some of the magical Cathar ruins around Rennes le Chateau, or spend your mornings in the local markets buying local produce. Within two hours, you can go skiing or hiking/fishing in the Pyrenees, go to Andorra and Spain, and spend some time visiting the fantastic Cathar fortresses of Montségur, Peyrepertuse, Queribus, Puivert and Puilaurens. Please contact us if you have any specific interests in mind, and we will be happy to help.
