The Languedoc-Roussillon region

This part of the Languedoc has a sunny Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone.

Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards, vineyards, vineyards.

Carcassonne

The medieval city of Carcassonne is a fairytale location with lots to see and do, with festivals in July and August each year, concerts by top stars, and a firework display on Bastille Day, the 14th July. In December, in the Bastide area, there's a great Christmas market. The Canal du Midi also passes through the town offering the opportunity for a boat trip on this fascinating waterway built in the mid-1600's.

The bastide area of Carcassonne is full of interesting architecture and is rich in history dating from the 12th century.

From the apartment, the nearest boulangeries are just a 5-minute walk away as is the nearest bar/restaurant.

For both children and adults, there's the 'Lac de la Cavayere', a lake with a beach that's safe for swimming and nature reserve which also offers other activities such as crazy golf or adventure playground climbing - it is approximately a 15 minute drive to get there. The river Aude is just across the road from the property and offers many beautiful walks. Strolling or cycling along the Canal du Midi watching the boats pass by is also very enjoyable. Carcassonne has a golf course if you fancy a round of golf.

The Mediterranean beaches are under an hour's drive and can also be reached by train to Narbonne from la gare de Carcassonne.

Carcassonne has a market in Place Carnot on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There are also many restaurants and bars to choose from in the town centre aswell as the cite de Carcassonne.

"Delightful apartment Wonderful hosts Fabulous garden and outside space"

This was my first visit to France apart from the mandatory day trip to Calais so expectations were high. I was not disappointed!. Booking was easy and Wendy answered all our questions and was on hand on our arrival to show as around and how things worked. A bottle of wine awaited us and directions to the Bistro by the station. The apartment was cosy and well kitted out and made our stay a memory to treasure in spite of the inclement weather. Hibiscus House is ideally placed for those wishing to visit Carcassonne and you don't need a car as the town is but a short walk. Local transport and trains are good and inexpensive if you want to go a little further afield. We most certainly intend to return to Hibiscus House

"Fabulous"

We had a lovely stay at Hibiscus House. The appartment was much larger than we expected and spotlessly clean. Wendy and Paul were great hosts - very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for Carcassonne and the medieval Cite, although we enjoyed relaxing in the lovely garden and cooling off in the pool too. A little oasis in the city!
