The Hebrides/Skye region

Our cottage is in what has become know as the centre of Skye and is dominated by The Cuillin a treat of peaks, vertical faces and steep ridges, in summer they are an exhilarating and challenging outing, in winter a major mountaineering expedition. So please be careful!! Viewed early in the morning from Glen Brittle, or later in the day from Elgol, this mountain range is the photographers delight. Don't be surprised if you go around a corner to find a film crew filming for the next blockbuster and if you have seen Prometheus, Ronin, Stardust, Highlander to name a few you might recognise the scenery.

The larger towns and villages of Skye are within 15 to 45 minutes of the cottage. Broadford offers a wonderful view over the bay to the Isle of Pabbay, bespoke jewelers, good fish & chips from the Waterfront Fish & Chip Shop, a well-stocked CO-OP and plenty more, even an Estate Agent if you want move to Skye. Portree has an old fashioned appeal, with colourful houses and traditional harbour, just outside the village check out Aros for theatre, films or something to eat. In Portree itself you will find small shops with gifts, visit Skye Soaps,Tippiecanoe or MacIntryes where you will find newpapers, or, if you have little ones one of the best toy shops in the Highlands. Dunvegan has the home of the Chief of Clan MacLeod where you will find that you can tour the castle and the garden grounds, best to leave most of the day to do this.

Unravel the intangible mysteries of this magical Isle by driving the back roads where you will be rewarded with wonderful views of ever changing topography but be aware that the roads are narrow. Please be polite and allow faster cars to past by using the passing places, note also, if you are at the top of a hill the car coming up toward you has right away so park up in the passing place until they pass you. If the driver is a local they will wave their thanks.
