Home description

The house has three floors and is 400 sq.mt.. It overlooks the lake and has an extraordinary view!
Built in the beginning of the 20th century it has been recently renovated by the owners, who were able to preserve the characteristics of the traditional “lake cottage”.

The house is located over the village's secondary road and is joined to its private lake side by a footpath. The villa has a magnificent garden on the lake with a private jetty for boats' landing.It stands in the middle of a quiet oasis of peace: a large park surrounds the main house, and on a corner you can also find a vegetable garden and an orchard.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area

The capital of Lombardy is Milan and is known for its international fairs , historical centre with cathedral and many smaller churches, ( Last Supper ) trendy shopping centre, castle , theatres and night-life. Lake Como is at 40 km from Milan and has a very pleasant temperate climate as it is in a sheltered position at the south side of the alps. Bright sunny winters, lovely springtime from April and a temperate summer. The hottest month is July with 25-30 degrees C. But a fresh breeze the " Breva" refreshes our afternoons.

Lots of entertainments: for the young water sports, sailing, surfing, kytesurfing, walking and hiking in the mountains, disco's , for the elderly relaxing visits to Como ( market!), Menaggio, Lugano, San Moritz, all good for a day trip. Take your car and go up into the valleys and enjoy the panorama over the lake and mountains, stop at a cosy trattoria : polenta, misoltin, pizzocheri, brasato and try the local wines!

Now with new fast "Eurostar" train connection you can reach, from Milan station, Bologna (1 hour), Florence (1,5h.) and Rome 3 hours only.

Carate Urio area

Carate Urio is situated on the western shore of Lake Como, the commune consists of the two distinct centres of Urio and Carate, which were administratively united in 1927. Urio, rich with residential villas, is situated in a beautiful panoramic position on a slope facing the lake. An impressive castle once stood here and its remains are incorporated in the eighteenth century villa which is the present headquarters of the International Centre of Studies of Opus Dei. Carate, in a less panoramic position, has not been affected much by urbanisation and has a remarkable layout with old houses and stepped lanes. Both of the centres have ancient origins: Gallic tombs and the remains of Roman civilisation have been found in the area.

Things to see.
Church of SS. Quirico e Giulitta
Originally a Romanesque construction, the parish church dedicated to St Quirico and St Giulitta was built in 1865. The bell tower (12th century) from the original building is still standing and has two levels of mullioned windows with two lights with arches above them.

Church of S. Marta
This Romanesque church, which dates back to the eleventh or twelfth centuries, has for the most part been conserved. It is in a panoramic position and has a number of very old frescoes.

Carate Urio has a few good restaurants at walking distance, a bank, pharmacy , postoffice and small grocery store, for extensive shopping you depend on Cernobbio and Como.

It is strategically located along the road which links the west side of Lake Como to Milan and to Switzerland. It is about 40 km from Milan and same from Lugano, and 6 km from Como. Walking distance from the famous “Villa D’Este” as well as from Laglio, the residence of Mr George Clooney! Tourist attractions such as 2Villa Balbianello" in Lenno, Tremezzo with "Villa Carlotta", Menaggio, Bellagio with "Villa Melzi" and Varenna are very near as well.

For biking lovers.
This is the area where the final race of the Pro Tour takes place: the Giro di Lombardia. You can ride in fact some of the famous hills of the “Lombardia”: the Schignano hill in Val d’Intelvi, the Osteno hill, the tough Ghisallo hill following the steps of famous Fausto Coppi.

This was the place where the Motorola team and Lance Armstrong were training. Lance was living just across Cernobbio on the other side of the Lake.

By plane Milan Linate or Malpensa airport or low cost airport Bergamo, public transport or car to Como, Carate Urio (direction Menaggio).

By train to Como , public transport to Carate Urio (direction Menaggio).

By car from Switzerland:Gotthard tunnel, Como, Carate Urio (direction Menaggio).

By car from Southern Italy: autostrada towards Milan, exit Como Nord, Cernobbio, Carate Urio (direction Menaggio) or better contact the owner for further details on the best way to reach this property.

Second floor. Double bedroom over the lake. Wardrobe. Room with two beds over the lake. Bathroom. Laundry room. Terrace all around the floor

Please note the two upper floors are independent from each other so the house is well indicated for two families with the kitchen in common.

The villa has large rooms with beautiful view of the lake and it is furnished both with modern and antiques pieces
There is sat tv, speed internet access and wifi.
If you like someone, upon specific request, could take care of the house-keeping every day, or perhaps just a couple of times during your stay.

The villa is located north-east and it's sunny from early in the morning through all day long
Two "al fresco" area where you can enjoy your lunch and dinner.
Prepare a barbecue on the terrace right on the lake
You can swim from the private jetty and have the use of an international class sailing boat "Star" (only available for expert sailors).

A typical lake wooden rowing boat and two kayaks are at our guests' disposal.
It's possible to organize, upon request, trips with motor boat to typical restaurants, secluded bay upon the lake and to admire its beauty.

If guests want to bring their own motor boat, kayaks or rowing boats , they can be moored in our covered dock or at our jetty.

Refundable breakages cash deposit of € 800 required on arrival, to be refunded at your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection).
