Casa "Cava" is on the first floor of a small 3 storey building with 7 apartments. The apartment consists of a living room with TV, DVD, dining corner and small balcony with breathtaking view over lake Como and mountains , one double ( or twin bedded room), shower room and kitchen .
It is pleasantly and accurately furnished .
In a quiet location at only 5 walking mins from lake side, busstop, boat stop, parking, coffeebar and restaurant .
You reach the building from the lake road taking a easy going - up path some 150 m long ( comfortable shoes and better two travelbags than one big suitcase!) . and another flight of steps in the garden and you reach the flat which is on the first floor. Good excercise , but rewarding , the higher you go the more beautiful the view becomes!

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area
Lombardy with its capital Milan offers a variety of landscapes, the lakes are known most , between Milan and the lakes there are some very pretty hilly areas which most tourists donot know and worthwhile. Lake Como is the nearest to Milan ( 40 km) and it situated at 2 km from the border with Switzerland . On the shores near Como-city you will see wonderful large villas with lush gardens, some of them are still private others can be visited . Wealthy people from Milan built in early 18th century there summer houses to get away from the heat and humidity of Milan .
lake Como is 50 km long and at Bellagio it splits up in two branches and becomes wider, it can be quite windy here and is therefore a paradise for windsurfers and sailing boats . Championships are held all during the summer , Menaggio, Dongo, Gravedona, Colico are lifely small villages with entertainment also for the very young.
Lake Como is also a lovely place to "leisure around" : charming town squares with coffeshops and icecream parlours , boats criscrossing the lake , nearly every village has its weekly market, for "that " bargain , easy walks in the surrounding hills and mountains, golf in Menaggio, etc.
The Alps are nearby, St.Moritz, Madesimo, Splugen pass : wonderful landscapes, refreshing high mountain air.
Venice, Bergamo , Milan excellent for a day trip.
Carate Urio area
Carate Urio is a small village on lake Como shore at 9 km from Como-city, 4 km from Swiss border and 60 km from Milan. It has a pharmacy, post office, small supermarket, coffeebar and a few restaurants all at walking distance. There is a regular bus service with Como and lake upwards ( Argegno, Menaggio etc) and it has a boat stop connecting the village with Como and other villages such as Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna, Lenno etc.
Carate is built against rather steep slopes and it is worth to visit the heart of the village with its narrow lanes, (mostly footpaths ) you can walk on a very beautiful easygoing footpath to Moltrasio, Cernobbio and Laglio. or all the way up to the top of the mountains, surely rewarding but quite steep.
There are no " beaches" in Carate Urio but only a few rassy or rocky strips where people sunbath and jump into the lake
Although Carate offers a few concerts in summer , for more entertainment you depend on Cernobbio or Como.
How to get there
Fly to Milan or Bergamo, both are also low budget airports ( Ryanair, Easyjet , Berlinair,etc) , take the train to Como and bus or boat to Carate Urio ( 30 mins)
by car through Switzerland ( Gotthardtunnel or San Bernardinotunnel), cross the border at Chiasso, 4 km to Carate
by car through Italy: autostrada to Como
