Villetta Agustina is a small house divided over 3 floors, from all windows a lovely view over the garden, lake Como and mountains. It is a typical " lake Como" villetta which means livingroom and kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor, one double bedroom on the first and one on the second floor, both with a large balcony at lake side. 260 m2 garden with roses ,lemon trees, azaleas and trees for shady spots , a large stone table invites alfresco' dining! the furniture is simple and pleasant .

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area

The capital of Lombardy is Milan and is known for its international fairs , historical centre with cathedral and many smaller churches, ( Last Supper ) trendy shopping centre, castle , theaters and nightlife. Lake Como is at 40 km from Milan and has a very pleasant temperate climate as it is in a sheltered position at the south side of the alps. Bright sunny winters, with hardly one cloud, lovely springtime from April and a temperate summer. The hottest month is july with 25-30 degrees C. But a fresh breeze the " Breva" refreshes our afternoons.

Lots of entertainments: for the young watersports, sailing, surfing, paragliding, walking and hiking in the mountains, disco's , for the elderly relaxing visits to Como ( market!), Menaggio, Lugano, San Moritz, all good for a day trip. Even Venice is not too far if you take the early train ( 4 hours) . Take your car and go up into the valleys and enjoy the panorama over the lake and mountains, stop at a cosy trattoria : polenta, misoltin, pizzocheri, brasato and try the local wines!

Carate Urio area

Carate Urio is small medieval pictoresque village , directly on the lake side, on the north west shore of lake Como at 9 km from Como-town . It has its boat stop with frequent services towards Como or to Bellagio , in 20 minutes you are by bus in Como . Its beauty attracted in the 19th century wealthy people from Milan who built here their summer residences. You can still admire wonderful villa's and especially when you take the boat which crisscrosses the lake , you will see exquisite country houses in lush parks , today more and more the famous -the rich and the beautiful- such as fashion makers Versacci, footballplayers and filmstars ( Clooney) have their second home here.

visit the parks of Villa Carlotta ( Tremezzo), Balbianello ( Lenno), Melzi ( Bellagio) , one week is too short!

Carate Urio is like a " kasbah" narrow lanes between the houses and gardens, leading you to the next villages such as Laglio, Moltrasio and Cernobbio.

Carate has a few good restaurants at walking distance, a bank, pharmacy , postoffice and small grocery store, for extensive shopping you depend on Cernobbio and Como.

Although Carate is on the lake shore, it has no beaches, only some green or gravel patches where you can sunbath and have a dive

By air to Milan Linate or Malpensa airport, public transport to Como, bus or boat to Carate Urio (2 hours)
by air to low budget airport Bergamo, public transport to Como, bus or boat to Carate Urio( 3 hours)
renta a car at airport and follow green autostrada signs for Como, Menaggio.
by car from Switzerland: through Gotthardtunnel, border with Italy, follow Cernobbio and Menaggio signs
by car from East Switzerland: Splugen pass, chiavenna, direction Menaggio, Como.
