The Campania region

Campania is a very interesting region, not only for its famous holiday resorts like Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Amalfi but also for its historical sites like Pompeii, Herculaneum, Cuma and Paestum.

Naples unfortunately has a bad reputation, (not deserved today) but it is one of the most stimulating cities of Italy. It was the capital of a kingdom for centuries and its palaces, churches and monuments reflect the incredible culture that was once concentrated here. It was considered the cultural capital of Europe in the 19th century with the exceptional music at the San Carlo theatre, the Posillipo landscape school of art where famous British and Russian artists came to work, its magnificent hotels where travellers of the 'Grand Tour' would stop to rest and one of the oldest universities of Europe where Chaucer studied and was inspired. Today it is a bustling and rather caotic city but if you are able to look through the grime and traffic you will perceive a city with a great history.

The Archeological Museum is renowned for its antique Roman and Greek artifacts, The Capodimonte Museum has a wonderful collection of Renaissance art and The San Carlo theatre is well worth a visit.

Capri

The island of Capri is probably one of the most stunning islands in the world. It is only quite small and has two main towns, Capri and Anacapri.

It enjoys a wonderful temperate climate and there is always a nice cool breeze blowing off the sea even on the hottest day. There are lots of places to visit, nearly all on foot, as most of the island is pedestrian. This adds to its charm and peace.

Capri is the bigger town, more sophisticated and bustling with its many famous restaurants and designer boutiques.

Anacapri is much quieter, with the atmosphere of a typical Mediterranean village. The Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe lived here and his home is a popular museum today. Gracie Fields and Graham Green also chose Anacapri as their residence. The village is quiet and relaxing with many good bars, restaurants and pizzerias. Nothing like a delicious gelato(ice cream) while people watching.

"Honeymoon in Capri, amazing location"

We stayed at La Pergola in Capri for one week in September as part of our honeymoon.
This property is fantastic, with amazing views of the sea and coast. The grounds are perfectly laid out to you have plenty of privacy, the pool, gardens are stunning. The property owners were very helpful in offering advise and knowledgeable about local trips\sites.
It is very homely and you will settle in and to begin to relax immediately.

The property is ideally situated in Anacapri just far enough away from the busy tourist areas but still allows you to walk to the town which has plenty of shops and restaurants

La Pergola is an amazing place to stay and we could not have asked for more from a holiday

"Magical and enchanting"

Capri, an island touched by the gods. This property is away from the crowds but near enough to a bus stop for easy access to everything. We lived on the terrace and marvelled at the sunset over the sea each evening. A romantic hideaway. Candace and Peppino could not be kinder or more helpful. Do not hesitate, just go. You will never regret it!

"Absolutely Fabulous!!!!"

One word AMAZING!! Anacapri was idilic, the villa was perfect, we had access to the private pool which had tremendous views. Everything was within walking distance although for a couple of euros we could go wherever we liked on the island. Candace and Peppino where the perfect hosts, anything we needed they were happy to help with. We hired a small boat for a trip around the island which was well worth it, we were able to drop anchor and swim through the grottos (apart from the blue grotto)

"Just perfect"

La Pergola is a fantastic location that exceeded our expectations. The vine covered terrace overlooking the Mediterranean is a magical place to unwind either during the day or watching the stunning sunset in the evening. It is very well equipped and, with the use of the owners washing machine, has everything that you could need including WiFi access to the internet. Our hosts, Candace & Peppino couldn't be nicer people and are always ready to help in any way. On this, our third visit to Capri, we have found the ideal place to stay and we would love to return.
