About the home

The villa is on the site of an old Roman fort, with its own 25acres including an olive grove. It is built on two floors with an upper terrace overlooking the 12 x 6m pool, with roman steps for small children, where there are tables and chairs under a pergola. There are also pool loungers for sunbathing.

On the floor below there is another spacious terrace off the kitchen with tables and chairs for 14, where you can dine watching the light from the setting sun turn the mountains and lake from gold to pink and then,, when dark, the lights from the fireflies. Walks abound for all ages and bicycling for the fit and there are boar, deer and porcupines to be seen in the woods (if you are lucky!).

On site are ping-pong table, table football, grand piano, bicycles, croquet, archery, books, badminton, indoor games, fishing and /or swimming in the lake. An ideal vacation retreat, within easy reach of Italy's art treasures in Florence, Sienna and Arezzo and local ancient hill top towns with excellent restaurants. There are also designer outlets for the shoppers. Wine tasting and in-house cookery lessons available and an excellent chef will come in to provide a fantastic, festive feast. Tennis courts and riding are 10 minutes away, golf 40 minutes away and flying lessons 20mins away.

The villa is fully equipped to move in, to hang up your clothes, and start cooking with sandwich machine, coffee makers, food mixers et al. It is all very user-friendly.

There is seating for 14 in the house and outside there is a lower and upper terrace with tables and chairs on each. The upper terrace is 20m from the pool which has Roman steps and a shallow end for children.

We are down a lane and very private. One can roam anywhere - in our olive grove, pick the figs, down through the woods to the lake and up on to the hills behind.

Our local town of Anghiari is enchanting and one can sit in the piazza and sample delicious pizzas and ice-creams and watch the world go by. The local shop does scrumptious home-made food, and there are many excellent restaurants close by. The birthplace of Michelangelo is 10 minutes away and the frescos of Piero della Francesca in San Sepolcro, 20 minutes away

The Tuscany / Arezzo Province region

This region of Eastern Tuscany is steeped in history as is all Italy. St. Francis escaped on foot up our valley, fleeing his father's rage (allegedly) of having given the family furniture to the poor, to Chiusi della Verna, where one can see the cave that he hid in and the monastery that was founded in his name.

Our local town of Anghiari is an extraordinarily picturesque little hilltop town with cobbled streets and people living in houses that have been there for 600 years. Sansepolcro is the home town of Piero della Francesca where his famous 'Resurection' is to be seen as is his 'Madonna del Parto' in Monterchi, and his frescos still in the cathedral of Arezzo.

The Caprese Michelangelo area

In the summer months there are musical festivals in all the local towns and in the piazzas under the stars ranging from invited foreign orchestras to local jazz groups. In the autumn there are chestnut, truffle, funghi, and polenta fiestas and at Christmas and New Year wonderful exhibitions of fireworks to be seen in all the valleys. All the year round are furniture and bric a brac events for the collectors.
