For a taste of la dolce vita look no further than a stay in this beautifully designed and sympathetically built Tuscan villa. Designed with meticulous care and attention to detail, Casa Borghino mixes traditional Tuscan style with contemporary modern design. Approached via a scenic drive along the shore of Lake Montedoglio, the property enjoys stunning unspoiled views of rolling hills and valleys. Inside old meets new with a seamless blend of rustic brick and stone, warm terracotta floors and ceilings and massive oak beams alongside sleek modern appliances and accessories to create an indulgent and luxurious feel throughout the villa. The keyword here is space, with a huge open plan living/dining/kitchen area as well as bigger than usual bedrooms and bathrooms that feature luxurious and stylish marble wall cladding with contemporary fittings.
With a choice of loggias designed to maximise enjoyment of the views you can decide whether to enjoy the early morning sun at breakfast in the splendour of our arched entrance loggia before moving onto lunch in the shade followed by a drink on the covered terrace which is he perfect place to view the sunset.
Casa Borghino is the perfect base from which to explore some of the key works of the Italian Renaissance, in particular works by Giotto, Piero della Francesca and Perugino. The local towns of Anghiari, Sanseplocro and Arezzo are exceptionally beautiful and relatively unknown where you can experience the real Italy away from the crowds.
For those interested in getting completely away from the rat race Casa Borghino is set in the midst of a network of marked rural footpaths from which you can explore the wild upland areas of the upper Tiber valley, much beloved by St Francis and today by those pilgrims who follow the trails in his footsteps.
It is worth noting that there is no swimming pool at this property. There is a wonderful outdoor pool in Sansepolcro where you can experience a real Italian family day out. http://www.acquaparkdisco.it/

The house is higher than any other property in a remote and large valley, and at the end of a long unpaved road which takes you several miles from normal traffic . The nearest property is 700 yards away. The peace and quiet, and complete privacy, are glorious, the views from this vantage-point are superb. The garden and trees on the property (and nearby walks are very attractive. The house itself is in traditional Tuscan style. It is enormous and very comfortably and tastefully appointed. All modern conveniences. The general effect is extremely handsome. You live like a prince.
Then, of course, there are the birds (nightingales, cuckoos, finches etc), the wonderful fragrances from the garden. Sitting in the loggia at the end of the house -- looking out over that magnificent Italian landscape, listening to the bees in that perfect stillness, is pure heaven.
Service was prompt: the power had gone out in a storm when we first arrived, and the owners had an electrician out there in 30 minutes.

We will remember our stay at Casa Borghino forever; it was simply the most relaxing, peaceful holiday we've ever had. The house itself is stunning; a perfect mix of old meets new. There's … More

"An outstanding experience!"
I have stayed in Casa Borghino for over two weeks in the summer and then again in the winter. The location is fantastic. It comes with an easy access to major tourist destinations but with the luxury of excaping from the crowds in the evenings. We flew to Rome, which isn't the closest airport but we enjoyed the drive and could get on with ticking off cities from our holiday list. Our list of places to see was long and included Siena, Perugia, Arezzo, Florence... There is good access to shops and restaurants in Anghiari and Sansepolcro although a car is a must to get down the mountain (unless you are up for a long walk). Do take hiking boots if you enjoy walking as there are walking paths up the mountains with fantastic views - just on your door step.
I particulary enjoyed the drive to the house (in a rented fiat panda) but imagine a very low supsended city car would struggle up that road so keep your aston martin safe in a garage and get a fiat panda!
Our holiday priorities soon changed as we discovered that we are simply very happy to stay in the villa rather than go anywhere.
The positioning of the house allows you to make the most of the sunshine (and shadows - depends on what you prefer). I particulary enjoyed that Casa Borghino is a house that stays nice and cool even through really hot summer days. My experience in the previous villas was such that we were terrorised by plagues of mosquitos and wasps. This was not a problem in Borghino - thanks to the altitude I imagine - a great relief! The winter experience was as good as summer. Underfloor heating made the house nice and warm. Lower outdoor temperatures and generally less tourists made siteseeing less of a hassle. A fire burning inthe fireplace, jazz from "martini in the morning" radio station and a glass of wine made my winter experience perfect!
The living - dining area is connected with one of the loggias and an open plan kitchen - allowing everybody to get together and spend a good time cooking and eating in real italian style! The kitchen was great - a large hob and oven and plenty of pots and pans.
The villa is large and designed in such way that allows one to always have a choice between spending time in your party group as well as have a snooze in a bedroom or in the garden.
Bedrooms are located in two areas - on the top floor and ground floor with a large living area in the middle. This may be useful if your holiday group consists of two groups or two families that want to spend holiday together but wish to have some sort of privacy (especially as there are two kitchens). Everything is fantastically well designed and very high quality (Miele washing machine made my clothes look better after the holiday!)
The house is superbly equiped and all you really need is a bottle of sun lotion and a bikini!
The internet connection was very good - suprising when you are on the top of the mountain. Constant wi-fi connection meant for us that we could sort out our day trips and directions or listen to the music online (although you can plug your iPod to the speakers and there was plenty of books and dvds too).
The overall experience was great. If you love good design and architecture you will definitely appreciate the treat. Casa Borghino has a great ambience. The house really is outstanding.
I would definitely recommend it and I hope I will go back very soon.

Il Borghino is exquisite. Sited on a hill, commanding glorious view of Tuscany, this is one of the most beautiful houses I have ever stayed in. Elegantly proportioned rooms and some delightful detailing provided the perfect setting for a very happy house party. We particularly enjoyed the 'loggias' on either side of the house: one perfect for catching the sun at breakfast and one perfect for enjoying long al fresco suppers in the evening. The size and provision of bedrooms and bathrooms were generous. A great deal of thought had obviously gone into the finishes in the house: generous, yet subtle, use of marble in the kitchen and bathrooms; very comfortable, generous beds; elegant, comfortable furniture; impressive ovens and hob; subtle lighting. It was lovely to sit outside in the afternoon with the sound of trickling water: the garden has been well planted with roses, cypresses and a surprisingly green lawn. New to this part of Italy, we enjoyed having such easy access to the Piero della Francesca paintings in Arezzo, Monterchi and Sansepolcro. Nearby Anghiari is a lovely. We were also fortunate to be there during the Palio in Sansepolcro, when rival towns take over the town square to compete in archery and flag throwing. A wonderful holiday.
