The beach also caters for a variety of water-sports. A mini-market at one end of the beach will supply all your day-to-day needs (anything from postcards and beach-balls to fresh bread and Parma ham) and if you feel like some evening entertainment, try taking a stroll in one of the harbour towns where you can enjoy a delicious Italian ice-cream while looking at the beautiful yachts moored in the harbour. The Tuscany / Island of Elba region

The Isle of Elba is the largest of the seven islands in the Tuscan archipelago (most of which now enjoys National Park protected status) and only 10 km from Piombino harbour on the Italian mainland. It covers an area of 223 sq. km and is renowned for being the greenest island in the Mediterranean, with spectacular mountains alternating with woodland areas, hills covered with typical Mediterranean maquis sloping down to crystal clear sea and vineyards which produce the famous “Elba Bianco” wine. In short, a paradise not only for nature lovers and sun-bathers, but also for horse riders, mountain bikers and trekkers who can explore the mountain trails and even climb the island’s highest peak (Mt. Capanne, 1018 metres). For the less energetic a cable car will take you to the top in the summer months.
There are many places to visit on the island, including the Summer and Winter residences of Napoleon Bonaparte, where he was exiled in 1814, the ruins of an ancient Roman villa, Etruscan and Roman remains and traces of Norman and Saracen invasions in various parts of the island. Elba is also renowned for its minerals and a visit to the old mines at Capoliveri, Rio Marina and Porto Azzurro is warmly recommended.
Many visitors like to combine a holiday on the Island with a few days sightseeing in Florence (only about two hours from Piombino), Pisa or Siena, Lucca or the Garfagnana district.
The Capoliveri area
The quaint little hilltop town of Capoliveri (only 2 km from the apartment) is a hive of activity in the summer months, particularly in the evening, and well worth a visit. It is perhaps one of the most spectacular and characteristic spots on the whole island, offering views over the rest of the island, Corsica, the islands of Montecristo and Pianosa and the Italian mainland. And if you’d like to take a closer look at any of these islands, you can take advantage of the many organized day trips, some of which offer fantastic views of underwater flora and fauna in their glass-bottom boats.
And, if you are feeling even more adventurous, try a session at the Diving Centre on Capoliveri beach which organizes short "expeditions", ideal for anyone with an underwater camera.
On 14 July, Capoliveri celebrates the “Festa dell’Innamorata”, one of the Island’s most fascinating legends which recounts the sad story of two young lovers. In the first decade of May, the “Festa del Cavatore” (Miner’s Festival) is held in honour of the island’s ancient mining traditions, while on the last Sunday in September, the annual Wine Festival is held, when the town’s “rioni” (districts) re-propose the historical setting for old peasant traditions and challenge each other in creating outstanding pageantry, all centred around the main harvest theme. A prize is awarded to the best reconstruction.
Porto Azzurro, only 3 km away, is a delightful old fishing village, now a harbour and fashionable resort, where there is plenty of nightlife.
Car advisable.

Guestbook for "Alberi" Villa
Dear Lynn,
We've just arrived home and I have possibility to thank you for great time spent at Alberi. These holidays were fantastic and Elba is a really beautiful island.
We're missing the sunshine, warm sea and tasty food and wine. I am counting on coming back next year.
Many thanks and all the best from Poland, hope to see you again
Darek
“Just a line to say how much we enjoyed our fantastic holiday on Elba. The kids never stop talking about it – especially the marvellous pizza we had at Giuseppe’s in Porto Azzurro. One thing I must add – the photos of your property do not do it justice – it is ten times better than we expected.” G.G.
“We had a super holiday – the apartment was just perfect - much better than described and the view quite spectacular. Beach facilities couldn’t have been better and we had a lovely time exploring Capoliveri and Porto Azzurro in the evenings. We’ll be back again next year.” Jean and Ian
“I’m finding it difficult to describe the fantastic view from your apartment to my friends and even the photos I took don’t help! I’ve told them to go and take a look for themselves next year! Seriously, we enjoyed your lovely apartment and really envy you. And by the way, thank you for all your help.” Carol and May.
“Once again, many thanks for all your help. The apartment was excellent and we enjoyed all the beaches around Capoliveri. We had great fun with the diving school taking underwater photographs. My wife and I hope to return next year, this time with our son.” Mr. F
