The promontory that takes the name reaches the maximum height of 124 meters and is made ??of a special granite, white - gray, studied all over the world for its geological features .
Of great importance is the presence of giant fern , dwarf palm on the rock " The Diver" and the existence of marine sediments of the Quaternary , which make Cape Vaticano a must for many scholars of Paleontology . The particular morphology of the area, with river valleys and deep incisions in an area with a typical terrace with steps, allows easy access to the fossiliferous strata of the Miocene .
Typical of tropical seas shells , shark teeth , corals, are associated with skeletal finds parts of continental and marine mammals . The whole area is still famous for its abundance of Clipeastri , ancient echinidi the characteristic pyramid shape now extinct.

The famous Venetian writer Giuseppe Berto, after touring Italy decided to stay and live here , through some of his books " The stretch of coast that culminates in Capo Vaticano is full of history and beauty. You could call Costabella with a hint of regret and nostalgia . "
In another work , Berto wrote: "I think it's called Capo Vaticano Vatican for the same reason that a hill in Rome is named the same way: priests and soothsayers went there to peer into the future , based on the flight of birds and other things . Two hundred yards off the tip there is a rock called Mantineo , and in greek " manteuo " means communicating with the divine will . The Chief was a sacred place , and still is , in spite of everything. "
Capo Vaticano is also known as the best country in the world that produces the red onion , also known as red onion , taste particularly sweet. In fact, thanks to the substances contained in the ground " only one cultivated in Capo Vaticano is sweet " and is sought after in the domestic and international markets .
