Cortijo Cañada del Reguero is our family home in one of the most spectacular locations in Spain. The house is very traditional and comfortable with an open plan area leading from the large kitchen through to the dining room and then onto the bright spacious lounge with a piano and large wood burning stove for cooler months.
From the lounge there are doors opening onto the terrace, which runs the full length of the house. In the main part of the Cortijo there are 2 bedrooms (a double and a twin) and one bathroom. A door leads up to the upper part of the Cortijo (which can be rented as a self-contained apartment) into an open dining area, kitchen and lounge. There are a further 2 bedrooms (a double and a twin) in this upper area.
The bedrooms sleep 8 people and there is a sofa bed in the apartment lounge that can sleep 1 or 2 people (4ft fully sprung mattress). There is also a spare mattress and a cot.
Cortijo Cañada del Reguero is not luxurious, it is homely and comfortable house and is great for families or groups of friends who want to enjoy time together in a place we call our home.
For smaller numbers and not in summer, the lower half of the cortijo can be rented separately for up to 4 people - see reference 21171 for details.

There are 5000 sq metres of grounds to explore. The swimming pool is 10 m x 4.5 m and is solar heated. Weather permitting the pool is open from early/mid May until the end of September. It is very private with a lovely terraced area around it to relax and sun bath.
There are sun loungers by the poolside. Adjacent to the poolside is a grassed garden area with a net for badminton for those more energetic! There are many fruit trees with cherries, walnuts, pears and apples to pick - feel free! The pool side is surrounded by lavender and rosemary.
The pool is solar heated but is at 1700 metres.
Bookings are normally taken from Saturday to Saturday but this can be flexible.
A 50% deposit is required to secure the cortijo for you and the balance paid 4 weeks in advance of arrival.
Smoking is not permitted inside the house but you are free to smoke outside, however please ensure all cigarettes (and BBQ's) are fully extinguished because of fire risks in the dry summer months.
On arrival at the Cortijo you will be met and shown around. There will be a welcome pack for you on arrival to include bread, milk, butter, jam, wine etc. The pool is open from the beginning of May (subject to weather permitting) until the end of September and is for the exclusive use of guests staying in the cortijo.
The Andalucia region
Las Alpujarras is the name given to the south side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range - It is an amazing area for so many activities whilst on holiday. Walking, mountain-biking, paragliding, music, horse-riding, canyoning and rock climbing, painting, bird watching, relaxing and much more. Qualified guides or tutors can be arranged for all of these pursuits and excellent maps are available in the Cortijo. Cortijo Cañada del Reguero sits at 1700 metres on the edge of the Sierra Nevada National Park and in the heart of the natural park above the lovely 'pueblo blanco' of Capileira.
Turismo de Granada have produced a great little booklet called ‘weekend’. It shows you many of the exciting places to visit in the region of Granada. One of the most visited placed is the Alhambra and Generalife in Granada. Being so popular, we highly recommend you book tickets in advance Granada has many other attractions including the spectacular cathedral. The Science Park and the Aqua Park are highly recommended for children.
The Coast – Costa Tropical
In 60/70 minutes you can be sitting on the beach of Salobreña ordering sardines that have been cooked on the beach. Along the coast is the resort of Almuñecar and La Herradura. La Herradura probably has the best beaches and good restaurants. Just next to La Herrdaura is the nudist beach Playa de Cantarriján.
Other places worth a visit:
Lanjaron with its soothing waters and baths.
Monachil with its amazing suspension bridges across rivers and gorges - great for children and adults!
La Taha villages including Pitres, Mecina, Mecina Fondales and Ferreriola.
Trevelez – famed for its ham and being, supposedly, the highest village in Spain - actually sits at the same height as the Cortijo.
Yegen – the home of Gerald Brenan who wrote the brilliant description of life in Las Alpujarras in the 1920’s – South from Granada - some things still have not changed….
The three beautiful white washed villages of Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira stand out as some of Spain’s most picturesque places to visit. Still very Spanish, these villages offer a selection of fine and local cuisine, shops and excellent bases to explore Las Alpujarras. Pampaneira is probably the most touristy of the three as it is the first to come to when travelling from Granada or the coast. Bubión sits in the middle and is a little quieter and Capileira is the highest with probably the best selection of restaurants and also the ideal base for walking the high Sierras. Cortijo Cañada del Reguero sits at 1700 metres just above the village of Capileira.

We stayed at the cortijo for 2 weeks and the weather was very good throughout. The cortijo is really very good, was nice and clean (thankyou Lynn) and has all the facilities you might need. And the location is wonderful with views down the valley, of the mountains and even the Med. Photos on the websites for the cortijo are accurate!! Plenty of walks of varying difficulties in the area, saw 30+ different birds. Nearby village Capilliera and within walking distance (builds leg muscles!!) and has various shops, etc. Altogether a really good time was had by both of us.
