B&B | 5 bedrooms | sleeps 12
Situated in a quiet road near the center of Quarante, The Belvedere B&B,opened its doors to the public in late 2009 after 5 years of total renovation of the 18th Century building. Situated on a hill surrounded by the vineyards of Languedoc Roussillon, the largest wine-producing region in the world, and with views south to the Pyrenees and north to the 'Montagne Noire'. Quarante is 20mins by car to Beziers, Narbonne and St Chinian. The Canal du Midi is a short walk or bicycle ride away. The region was extensively developed by the Romans and is noted for their legacy. The 'Via Domitia' being just one example. Quarante has two butchers, a baker, a chemist, a vegetable shop, a self-service mini market, a newsagent and two schools and a population of 1500. So it is a thriving picturesque typical French village. There are plenty of good restaurants within 10 minutes' drive and we are lucky to have two excellent restaurants a short walk from the village.
Quarante has a regular bus route servicing Beziers. Free Wi-Fi throughout the house.

About this location
The Languedoc-Roussillon region
With a population of about 1 million, Hérault is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on 4 March 1790.
Hérault is part of the current region of Languedoc-Roussillon and is surrounded by the departments of Aude, Tarn, Aveyron, Gard, and the Mediterranean to the south.
The department is very geographically diverse, with beaches to the south, the Cévennes Mountains to the north, and agricultural land in between. Its Mediterranean beaches (especially Cap d'Agde) are a major attraction, as well as the caves of Clamouse and Demoiselles.Cruising along the Canal du Midi and walking or cycling along its tow paths is a popular holiday option.
Quarante is a pretty Hérault village set between the foothills of the Haut Languedoc Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, enjoying the best of that both worlds have to offer.
A short distance from the Canal du Midi, Quarante has over a thousand years of history. Discover its history in the old quarter with its picturesque streets, the remains of its fortifications, its Archaeological Museum and the beautiful 10th century Abbey with its Roman artefacts.
Since Roman times, Quarante has primarily been a wine making village. Its vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see, meandering between 'garrigue' and pine forests.

Thank you 'anne l' for your kind review of The Belvedere, and to hear that we contributed to your enjoyment of visiting our wonderful region here in the South of France. For our part it is always a great pleasure to have guests that appreciate all that we have to offer. It is long and expensive trip from Vancouver to Beziers and so we are very pleased that your holiday experience with us was enough for you to consider returning. "Excellent B&B, great fruit salads at breakfast, nice host, clean, comfortable"

Thank you bobeeke for taking the time to post your kind review. The least one should expect from a B&B is a comfortable bed and a good breakfast! Personal attention may also be expected, one of the advantages of staying in a B&B (or small hotel) against a large impersonal establishment. For us it is always nice to meet and converse with interesting people.

We very much appreciate that you took the trouble to write us such a nice review. Thank you, Metroviv. It is kind of you also to appreciate our breakfasts and our help. To us that is all 'part and parcel' of what we do to make our guests stay enjoyable. It is nothing special for us, however it does make our experience 'special' when guests appreciate our efforts. Again thank you and 'à bientôt'.
