The Cape Peninsula is South Africa's premier tourist destination.
The Cape offers a diverse range of activities from historic wine farms; world-class beaches; Cape Point, the dramatic headland where the Indian and Atlantic ocean collide; and South Africa's most famous landmark, Table Mountain.
The best time to visit is from October to May.
Cape Town / Mouille Point area
Should you not wish to spend all your time lazing on the beach, you may wish to take a 10 minute stroll to the famous V&A Waterfront and explore the numerous shops, restaurants and pubs.
It is from the V&A Waterfront that the sun-downer cruise boats and the ferry trips to Robin Island (the prison Island where Nelson Mandela spent all those dark years) depart. You could also experience the magic of a helicopter flip around the Cape Peninsula, or even go whale watching.
If beaches are your thing, just 5km down the Atlantic coast are the world famous beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay.
If you’re after some piece and quiet, the hiking routes and cable-car station for Table Mountain are only 3 km away. Or why not head out to the “Groot Constantia Wine Farm”, just 12km away, and enjoy some quality wine and a picnic on the emerald green lawns below the vineyards. On the way, you could stop off at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (8km away) and take in the unique flora of the Cape in the most beautiful of settings.
If night-life is what you're after, you not only have the V&A Waterfront on your doorstep, but Long Street in the Cape Town CBD (a 5 minute drive), or alternatively, the quaint and popular “De Waterkant” area (a 3 minute drive).
The 2010 Football World Cup stadium is a 5 minute walk down the road. With 2010 Football World Cup just around the corner, there is certainly no more convenient location to stay.
How to get there
Getting from the UK to Cape Town - British Airways [www.ba.co.uk]; - Virgin Atlantic [www.virginatlantic.co.uk]; and - South African Airways [www.flysaa.com] fly direct between London Heathrow and Cape Town. The flights are predominantly overnight and take approximately 12 hours.
Transportation once you arrive in Cape Town
Licensed Taxi’s are available at the Airport. Depending on the traffic, it should not cost more than R350 to get from the Airport to the Apartment. All the major Car Rental company’s have a presence at the airport. It is preferable to pre-book your rental vehicle, especially if you are visiting Cape Town during the peak tourist season.
Directions from Cape Town International Airport to the Apartment in Mouille Point:
After leaving the Cape Town International Airport, take the N2 in the direction of Cape Town;
Follow the N2, which later becomes the Eastern Boulevard all the way to the first set of traffic lights as you enter the Cape Town CBD (the Cape Town Convension Centre will be on your left hand side);
Cross the traffic lights and get into the Right-hand lane;
At the next set of traffic lights turn Right onto the Western Boulevard;
Stay in the Right-hand lane until the next set of traffic lights, where the road bends right into Portswood Rd;
Cross the traffic lights and continue down Portswood Rd towards the V&A Waterfront;
Take the 2nd Left into Beach Rd;
Continue down Beach Rd, the World Cup Football Stadium will be on your left, and Somerset Place is the 4th block of flats on the Left after the Radisson Hotel.
The Apartment is Flat 202 on the 2nd floor.
